Two second-year quarterbacks face off in Week 1 with the San Francisco 49ers and Trey Lance traveling to Chicago to take on Justin Fields and the Chicago Bears

Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers look to repeat last year’s impressive season that saw them make the NFC title game, and Lance could be the piece that takes this offense to the next level.

The Bears are expected to struggle in 2022, and even though Fields had a great preseason, there are questions on whether or not the Bears will be able to protect him in 2022.

That being said, Chicago is in an advantageous spot as an underdog at home in Week 1 of the 2022 season. Here are the latest odds from FanDuel Sportsbook:

49ers vs. Bears Odds, Spread and Total

Bears vs. 49ers Betting Trends

  • Kyle Shanahan is 16-24-1 ATS as a favorite in his coaching career.
  • Shanahan is 0-4-1 ATS in Week 1 in his career.
  • Justin Fields is 1-4 ATS as a starter in the NFL.
  • The UNDER was 10-7 in the Bears’ 17 games last season.
  • The UNDER was 12-8 in the 49ers’ 20 games last season.

49ers vs. Bears Prediction and Pick

The 49ers pass rush could cause some problems for the Bears up front, but I actually have a little more confidence in Fields than Lance in this matchup.

Fields has gone through some of the growing pains in the NFL from last season while Lance didn’t see enough action for anyone to really know what he will be like in regular season play.

There’s no doubt that the 49ers have the better team and supporting cast on offense, but Kyle Shanahan’s squad has traditionally struggled as a favorite. The 49ers are nearly laying seven points on the road in Week 1, but I see this being more of a dogfight with Shanahan testing new ideas with Lance under center.

The 49ers should be able to run the Bears into submission, but don’t be surprised if Fields builds on a strong preseason and keeps this game closer than oddsmakers expect.

LEAN: Bears +6.5 (-102)
