Ask the Oddsmakers: Which College Football Week 10 Lines are Overreactions from Week 9?
By Ben Heisler
Two road favorites headline our list of "overreaction lines" for Week 10 in College Football according to the oddsmakers at WynnBET.
Each week, our team at BetSided takes a look at the current slate of games and reaches out to the actual traders that are setting the lines each week at WynnBET Sportsbook. For Week 10 of the college football season, two road favorites headline our list according to the oddsmakers at WynnBET: the Baylor Bears, and Michigan State Spartans.
Baylor vs. TCU Odds
Baylor opened at -3 on the road at TCU, but have since moved a full 3.5-points up to just under a touchdown at -6.5. TCU is now a +210 moneyline underdog to win straight up, with a total in the game of 58.5
According to WynnBET Senior Trader Grant Tucker, the Bears are nowhere near deserving of their current inflated line on the road vs. TCU.
“I think the Baylor and TCU line is a pretty big overreaction," Tucker told BetSided.
This is a game where we opened at Baylor -3. The Horned Frogs have won five of the last six meetings against the Bears with their lone loss in that triple-overtime game in 2019. TCU hasn’t lived up to expectations on the defensive side of the ball this season, but I just haven’t seen anything from the Bears that justifies them being nearly a touchdown favorite on the road. If this game was in Waco, I could be on the Bears corner. But, after recently losing their head coach I can see the motivated Horned Frogs hanging around.”
Michigan State vs. Purdue Odds
Fresh off their home upset victory over No. 6 Michigan to remain undefeated on the season, Michigan State (8-0) moved up the AP poll to the No. 3 team in the country. This week, they travel to Purdue to face
Additionally, Senior Trader Motoi Pearson views Michigan State's road matchup at Purdue this week as a blatant overreaction to Sparty's upset win at home against Michigan. He believes that this week doesn't have many overreactions, but this spread sticks out.
“As we get further into the season, the lines continue to sharpen up," says Pearson.
There aren’t that many overreaction lines that I’ve seen or at least on the ones that we’ve handicapped. Although, some may think Michigan State as a 3-point road favorite might be a little high. We opened at three-and-a-half and thought the number could’ve been slightly higher, even in a spot where the Spartans could have a let down game.”
Both the Baylor and Michigan State lines have remained consistent as of Friday afternoon.
