Avalanche's Odds to Win Stanley Cup Are Ridiculous
The Colorado Avalanche have swept the Edmonton Oilers and now advance to the Stanley Cup Final.
They await the winner of the Eastern Conference Final, and will play against either the Tampa Bay Lightning or the New York Rangers. It's worth noting that they will have home-ice advantage against whichever team they end up facing.
With that being said, they have absolutely no betting value to win the Stanley Cup as of right now. Let's take a peak at the latest odds, courtesy of WynnBET Sportsbook.
Updated Stanley Cup Odds
- Avalanche -220
- Rangers +375
- Lightning +450
Avalanche Have No Value to Win the Cup
Hand up, I was wrong about the Avalanche. I said they had the worst betting value amongst all teams to win the Cup ahead of the postseason, and I've been suspicious of them all season.
In my defense, the Avs didn't end up having to face the two teams who I thought presented the toughest stylistic matchups for them. I thought the Wild and Flames would give them fits, but they were both upset and eliminated before getting their shots at Colorado.
Even though the Avalanche have looked uber-impressive in the playoffs, let's not forget how easy their path has been to get here. They beat the worst postseason team without their star goaltender in the Predators, needed overtime in Game 6 to eliminate the overrated Blues, and then beat an Oilers team who might as well have had a pylon in-between the pipes for them.
The Avs still have had issues on defense, and their goaltending hasn't stood up to par. They have a team save percentage of 89.87% heading into the Final. Not only that, but they've likely lost center Nazem Kadri for the rest of the postseason, which is a fatal blow to the team's depth and grit.
-220 for them to win the Cup? No thank you. I'd much rather sprinkle on both the Rangers at +375 and Lightning at +450, and then ride out whoever ends up facing them. Colorado may even be the better team, but they're being extremely overvalued.
