Two more playoff baseball matchups are on the slate this Thursday as both ALDS Game 2 matchups pick up from Tuesday's openers.

In the mid-afternoon, the Houston Astros look to go up 2-0 on the Seattle Mariners from Houston, while in the nightcap, the Cleveland Guardians hope to even their series vs. the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium.

Best Home Run Picks Today

Yordan Alvarez - Houston Astros vs. Seattle Mariners

There’s a chance that we have just one ALDS game tonight with rain expected in New York, so I’m turning my focus to the Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners for our Daily Dinger picks.

Luis Castillo versus Framber Valdez is a terrific pitching matchup, but the unit I trust the least in this game is the Mariners’ bullpen, which blew a huge lead in Game 1, ending in this Yordan Alvarez walk-off home run.

Alvarez is my pick to go yard tonight, as I simply think the Mariners’ bullpen doesn’t have an answer for him. There’s a chance we don’t see a homer with either starter on the mound, but the Astros had one of the best bullpen ERAs in all of baseball.

I’m out on the Mariners pen, and in on Alvarez’s insane power after he hit 37 homers in the regular season. – Peter Dewey

Jose Altuve – Houston Astros vs. Seattle Mariners

Altuve hasn’t hit a home run in the last week, but he’s hit three in the last two weeks and four in the last 28 days. He’s also had success against righties, hitting 18 of his 28 homers on the year against righties. The Astros hit the third-most home runs at home.

With Castillo coming off a near-perfect start against the Blue Jays, expect a little bit of regression today. - Donnavan Smoot

Eugenio Suárez - Seattle Mariners at Houston Astros

I'm not going to lie, the options for a home run today don't feel all that ideal between the brutal weather for Guardians-Yankees in the Bronx, along with the pitching matchup taking place in Houston for Mariners-Astros.

However, if there is a potential option who is always capable of getting a hold of one in a hitter-friendly park for right handers, Eugenio Suárez of the Mariners could be that play.

Suárez already went yard in Game 1, and has been on fire over his last five games: 9 for 23 with a home run, and two extra base hits. He also has an isolated power of .271 this year vs. left-handers, near 2x the league average.

Valdez rarely gives up the long ball, but when he does its usually to right-handers and it comes in bunches, so I'll back Seattle's best power bat who thrives off facing lefties. - Ben Heisler
