Best Home Run Picks for Sunday, April 24

  • Patrick Wisdom (+300)
  • Nick Solak (TBD)

Patrick Wisdom - Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Chicago Cubs

I spent part of my Sunday debating between two candidates for my Dinger pick of the day: Patrick Wisdom of the Chicago Cubs, or Alec Bohm of the Philadelphia Phillies.

Bohm's Statcast numbers and splits match up nicely, but I'll play the weather game in Chicago with the wind blowing straight out to left at 20-23 mph.

Despite both of his home runs coming off left-handed pitching this year, Wiscom has seen the ball off right-handers as well; collecting four doubles in eight of his hits this year.

All the Cubs slugger needs to do against JT Brubaker (0-2, 7.30 ERA) today is basically get underneath the ball and the wind should do most of the work. While Brubaker is a predominant sinker-ball pitcher, he's still given up two home runs this year and a lot of hard contact. Wisdom leads the Cubs in fly ball percentage and a pull percentage of 57.7%, so if he makes contact, it's likely to go a long way. -- Ben Heisler

Nick Solak - Texas Rangers vs. Oakland Athletics

Texas Rangers outfielder Nick Solak has already hit two home runs this season, and he gets a favorable matchup against Oakland Athletics left hander Cole Irvin on Sunday.

Irvin has allowed four home runs this season, and the lefty and he’s in the bottom six percent of the league in expected slugging percentage .668, per Baseball Savant.

Solak is much better against left handers in his career, hitting .299 with eight homers in 268 career at-bats. I think he can attack a struggling Irvin on Sunday. -- Peter Dewey
