Best Home Run Picks for Tuesday, April 19
- Juan Soto (+500 GM 1 |TBD GM 2)
- J.D. Martinez (+370)
- Xander Bogaerts (+450)
- Bryce Harper (+275)
- Ty France (+520)
Juan Soto (+500 GAME 1 | TBD GAME 2) - Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Washington Nationals
Contrary to popular belief, picking a player to hit a home run is a lot harder than you’d think.Today, I’m going with a strictly volume play, as Soto and the Washington Nationals have a doubleheader against the lowly Arizona Diamondbacks.
I’d be surprised if Soto sat one of the games now that he could DH in one of them, so I like his chances of leaving the yard in around eight at bats on Tuesday.
Soto already has three homers this season and is slugging an impressive .615. I think he can get it done against one of the league’s worst teams. -- Peter Dewey
J.D. Martinez (+370) - Toronto Blue Jays vs. Boston Red Sox
Everything is coming up Milhouse for the Red Sox slugger tonight against Yusei Kikuchi and the Toronto Blue Jays.
Martinez destroys left-handed pitching, evidenced by not only his isolated power (ISO) numbers vs. lefties over his career, but especially at home, where his isolated power is at levels nearly 2.5x league average. Factor in Kikuchi's propensity to give up hard contact and Martinez is sitting pretty with the wind blowing straight out to center.
Oh, and did I mention that Martinez in six career at-bats has two dingers off Kikuchi?
Sometimes the right plays stare you right in the face, and J.D. to launch one out of Fenway is one of them. -- Ben Heisler
Xander Bogaerts (+450) - Toronto Blue Jays vs. Boston Red Sox
The Red Sox shortstop faces off against left hander Yusei Kikuchi at Fenway Park on Tuesday in what is shaping up to be a hitter friendly evening for him.
Bogaerts is a career .305 hitter against lefties and his slugging percentage shoots up 12 points when facing southpaws. As well, he hits .312 for his career at Fenway with a near .500 slugging percentage.
He has one homer so far this season but I like the matchup against a lefty to grab No. 2 at this big price. -- Reed Wallach
Bryce Harper - Philadelphia Phillies vs. Colorado Rockies
Bryce Harper playing at Coors Field against Kyle Freeland, who has a 10 ERA through two starts? Yes please.
Harper is only batting .220 this year, but there's no way it's going to stay at that number for the defending MVP. He's going to start getting hits and he's going to start hitting dingers.
What better place to get a hot streak started than the most hitter-friendly ball park in the Majors? -- Iain MacMillan
Ty France (+520) - Texas Rangers vs. Seattle Mariners
France is second on the team in home runs this season and has a great matchup tonight.
The Texas Rangers give up the most home runs per game this season, allowing 2.03 dingers per game. The next closest is the Seattle Mariners at 1.57. Texas is far and away the best matchup for any home run pick.
France has a decent batting average at .289, so I’ll back him to at least get the bat on the ball. Jon Gray, the Rangers’ starter for tonight, didn’t have the best first outing, so I expect a little shakiness from him tonight and some confidence from France. -- Donnavan Smoot
