Best NRFI and YRFI Bets Today (Giants vs Diamondbacks Headline Trio of Matchups)
By Joe Summers
It's a beautiful day to cash some No Run First Inning (NRFI) and Yes Run First Inning (YRFI) bets, if I do say so myself.
There's a loaded MLB slate on tap for us today and the BetSided team has every angle covered, so be sure to check out our previews before you fill out your bet slip at WynnBET Sportsbook.
As you do though, keep these opening frame plays in mind as well. Using the odds from WynnBET, here are my favorite NRFI/YRFI bets of the day:
Best NRFI and YRFI Bets Today
Blue Jays vs Athletics YRFI (-105)
I haven't double-checked, but I think the 11th Commandment is "Bet the YRFI when Jose Berrios Pitches on the Road."
Berrios has a 7.92 ERA away from home and has given up 12 runs in the first inning over 16 starts. He's been perhaps MLB's worst starting pitcher. Despite Oakland's offensive struggles, they actually score first-inning runs at the 13th highest rate in baseball.
Even if the A's aren't able to score on Berrios though, Toronto should get the job done against James Kaprielian. He's been strong early on most of the year, but the Blue Jays score runs in the opening frame more than any team besides the Cubs. With solid weather conditions in store, I expect some early fireworks today.
Phillies vs Nationals NRFI (-110)
Aaron Nola allowed a first-inning run just twice in 16 starts thus far and looks absolutely dominant. His 2.83 expected ERA is among the best marks in MLB, while Washington is likely without their injured superstar, Juan Soto.
With Nola likely to carve up the Nationals' lineup, this bet comes down to Josiah Gray against the Phillies. Well, we're in luck. Gray held Philly scoreless over six strong innings last month and has a 2.01 ERA on the road.
Philadelphia scores in the first inning just over 25% of the time, so I love the odds we're getting that the Phillies struggle early on once again.
Giants vs Diamondbacks NRFI (-120)
I trust both pitchers and have questions about both lineups, so I love both the under and NRFI in this matchup. Both the Giants and Diamondbacks score first-inning runs at bottom-eight rates in MLB and have struggled to score early in the series.
Merrill Kelly rebounded from a rough May to surrender a run in the first inning just once in his last five starts, while Alex Cobb allowed one just a single time in his 11 starts this season.
Trust both pitchers and roll with the NRFI in what should be a low-scoring contest.
