Best NRFI and YRFI Bets Today (Patrick Corbin & Jose Quintana Highlight Pitchers to Target)
By Joe Summers
With 16 MLB games on tap for today, there's loads of value for bettors. Our team at BetSided has previews and best bets for each game, so be sure to lock in as you're picking your wagers over at WynnBET Sportsbook.
You already know that with so many matchups scheduled, there's several tantalizing No Run First Inning (NRFI) and Yes Run First Inning (YRFI) plays to entertain.
Using the odds from WynnBET, here are my favorite NRFI/YRFI bets of the day:
Best NRFI and YRFI Bets Today
Pirates vs Nationals YRFI (-125)
I've got no faith in either starter today. The YRFI is 6-1 in Patrick Corbin's last seven starts as he's amassed a 6.36 expected ERA in a disastrous season. He's given up 22 hits and six home runs over his last 13 innings.
Jose Quintana has solid box score numbers, but he's in just the 16th percentile in expected batting average, and his 4.63 expected ERA suggests he's been lucky. The Nationals score first-inning runs at a top-10 rate in MLB while both clubs rank in the bottom six in preventing first-inning runs. Oh yeah, there's this guy too:
With two pitchers I don't trust, I'm expecting some early runs in this one.
Red Sox vs Blue Jays NRFI (+110)
I have no faith in Corbin or Quintana, but I have faith to spare in Michael Wacha and Ross Stripling.
Wacha has allowed a first-inning run just twice in 12 starts this year and while the Blue Jays are dangerous, Boston is one of the stingiest opening frame teams in MLB. They allow a run in the first less than 25% of the time, and Wacha limited Toronto to one run in six strong innings earlier this year.
Stripling has been sensational as a starter himself. He has a 1.16 ERA this month and hasn't allowed a first-inning run a single time. The Red Sox score in the first in only 29.73% of their games, so I love getting plus money behind two pitchers I think will have good outings.
Rangers vs Royals NRFI (-120)
The Royals are 28th in OPS against right-handed pitchers over the last three weeks and face a capable one in Jon Gray today. Gray has a 1.48 ERA over his last three starts, allowing only 12 hits in 18.2 innings during that stretch.
Kansas City is stingy at home too, allowing a first-inning run in only 21.62% of games at Kauffman Stadium. Jonathan Heasley is settling into his own as a starter and has held his opponent scoreless in the first in all four starts this month. The Rangers struggle against right-handed pitchers, and I think Heasley continues his ascension tonight.
