Best NRFI and YRFI Bets Today (Pirates vs Braves Among Three Matchups to Target)
By Joe Summers
We're just a week away from Father's Day. That means it's a lovely time to nail some bets and build up that cash reservoir to make sure you can get a nice gift.
Luckily for us, No Run First Inning (NRFI) and Yes Run First Inning (YRFI) bets can be quite a cash cow. There's 15 games on today's loaded MLB slate and there's tons of value to be had in the NRFI/YRFI bets sweeping the nation.
Thanks to the odds from WynnBET Sportsbook, I've analyzed the best of the matchups and am thrilled to bring you my favorite NRFI and YRFI bets of the day:
Best NRFI and YRFI Bets Today
Blue Jays vs Tigers NRFI (-125)
It's Tarik Skubal day! The 25-year-old Tigers' phenom has allowed just one first-inning run in his last 10 starts. Over his last six outings, he hasn't allowed a single run four times. He has the seventh-lowest expected ERA (2.63) of all qualified pitchers and has been even better at home, compiling a 1.70 ERA over six outings. While the Blue Jays' lineup is scary, Skubal is scarier.
On the other end, Ross Stripling should have no issues shutting the Tigers' woeful lineup down. Toronto allows a first-inning run in only 23.33% of their road games and Detroit has been a pathetic first-inning team. The Tigers score runs in the opening frame at the second-worst rate in MLB, plating one in a pathetic 15.52% of their contests. Stripling has a 3.30 expected ERA and I love the -125 odds on Skubal to stay strong and the Detroit lineup to stay weak.
Marlins vs Astros NRFI (-140)
This is a lot of juice to pay, but it's worth it for a showdown between young stud Edward Cabrera and Cy Young favorite Justin Verlander.
Cabrera has been sensational in his first two starts for the Marlins, allowing just one run over 12 innings while striking out 13. The Astros score a first-inning run in only 25% of their games and with this being the first time they've ever seen Cabrera, his impressive fastball and command should frustrate Houston early on.
Verlander, meanwhile, has allowed a run in the first inning just once in 11 starts and ranks among MLB's best pitchers in all major categories. The Marlins score a first-inning run less than 20% of the time and barring a miracle, I don't see them getting to Verlander here. Both clubs' defenses are in the top-five in the NL in Outs Above Average and that only helps our cause. Trust the strong pitching matchup and roll with the NRFI.
Pirates vs Braves NRFI (-115)
Both Pittsburgh and Atlanta are among the worst first-inning offenses in the sport, with the Pirates scoring a first-inning run in 22.81% of their games and the Braves scoring one in 25% of their matchups. We're getting tremendous odds to back two excellent pitchers in Jose Quintana and Kyle Wright against these meager lineups.
Quintana has allowed a first-inning run just once in 11 starts, while Wright has allowed one just twice in 11 outings. With -115 odds, we just need these pitchers and lineups to continue doing what they've done all season: put up zero's in the opening frame.
