Browns vs. Chiefs: Odds, Spread, Over/Under and Prediction for NFL Week 1
By Thomas Snodgrass
The Kansas City Chiefs have appeared in the last two Super Bowls, the Cleveland Browns have never been to one. As the Chiefs look to continue their dominance, the Browns will try to establish dominance of their own; starting Week 1 with Cleveland visiting Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City on Sunday, September 12th.
The Browns have gone from an 0-16 team to an 11-5 team in a few short years, certainly trending in the right direction. After making the playoffs in 2020, their first postseason appearance since 2002, Clevaland’s season would come to an end at the hands of Andy Reid and his Chiefs. Even after losing quarterback Patrick Mahomes to a concussion, Kansas City pulled off a playoff victory against the Browns with an offense led by Chad Henne down the stretch. That may have left a bad taste in the mouth of the Cleveland faithful.
The Browns shored up their defense in the offseason, bringing in defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, safety John Johnson III, and cornerback Troy Hill; hoping to get the 26.1 points per game against from 2020 to a much lower number in 2021.
The Chiefs have the consensus favorite for MVP in Mahomes, and many starters returning on an offense that averaged 415.8 yards per game, most in the NFL. They will continue to be one of the NFL’s top offenses but can Kansas City’s defense actually take a step forward in 2021?
The Chiefs tied for 10th in points per game against, and have a few young defenders that can make a name for themselves, such as cornerback L’Jarius Sneed and linebacker Willie Gay, Jr.

Browns vs. Chiefs Prediction and Pick
Kevin Stefanski has done a great job with the Browns since he was named head coach. Baker Mayfield looks like he could get to a higher level of play at QB. Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt are a solid running back duo, and they bolstered their defense.
The city of Cleveland is buzzing. The Browns made the playoffs last year, and now the fanbase expects them to do it again. And they just might.
With that being said, I'm taking the Chiefs to win in Week 1.
Kansas City’s offense is still largely intact, and I don’t see it slowing down; even against this upstart Browns squad. I wouldn’t be against taking the over, too. It looks like it has the makings of a shootout.
