The NFL is back in action and the public once again walks away as losers. There's a reason why casinos are castles made from gold.

When a bet seems obvious, it usually isn’t. The Buccaneers get the 31-29 win thanks to a last-minute drive by Tom Brady and a game-winning field goal by Ryan Succop, but it meant nothing for Tampa Bay bettors.

Unless you took the Bucs on the moneyline, and the large majority of people didn’t, you’re walking away from opening night with a sour taste in your mouth if you backed Tampa Bay.

According to WynnBET, 72% of spread tickets and 83% of the money was on the Buccaneers to cover the spread against the Cowboys.

Not only did the Buccaneers fail to cover the closing 9.5-point spread, but they were also an extremely popular option for teaser bettors this weekend. If you don’t know, teaser bets are when you parlay two teams together, but you give yourself six points on the spread in each game for roughly the same odds of the a single bet.

For example, if you teased Buccaneers -9.5 with 49ers -7.5, then the bet would’ve been a bet on the Buccaneers to cover a 3.5-point spread and the 49ers to cover a 1.5-point spread.

With the Buccaneers winning the game by only two points, those teaser bets are now all losers before we even hit Sunday.

There are a lucky few that teased the Buccaneers when the line was still at 7.5-points, and those would still be alive since they only need the Bucs to cover a 1.5-point spread today, which they did.

This was a dream result for sportsbooks, as not only did the public lose on teasers and the point spread, but anyone who took a shot at the Cowboys moneyline at +350 lost too.

Only those who bet on the over on the point total or player props instead, won. But a lot of people lost money tonight.
