Cardinals Still Getting No Love in NFC West Odds
By Peter Dewey
The Arizona Cardinals had arguably the most impressive Week 1 performance of any team in the NFL as they went on the roads and defeated the Tennessee Titans 38-13.
It was a convincing win thanks to four touchdown passes from quarterback Kyler Murray and a monster five-sack game from Chandler Jones, who missed the final 11 games of last season with a biceps injury.
Arizona looked like a team that is ready to contend this season, and after adding veterans like J.J. Watt and A.J. Green in free agency, this is right where the Cardinals expected to be. However, the oddsmakers at WynnBET aren’t giving them much of a shot to win the NFC West despite their Week 1 dominance.
Odds to Win NFC West
- Los Angeles Rams: 190
- San Francisco 49ers: +190
- Seattle Seahawks: +275
- Arizona Cardinals: +475
Arizona was +500 to win the division entering Week 1, so while it did see a little bump, it’s not enough to truly consider it a favorite in the division or even for the postseason.
The lack of movement is understandable, as the Rams, 49ers and Seahawks also won their season openers, but the Cardinals look like they could hang with those teams this season.
Arizona finished 8-8 in the 2020 campaign, but it stumbled down the stretch, losing six of its final nine games after a 5-2 start. The struggles came after the team’s bye week in 2020, so that will likely be a point of emphasis for head coach Kliff Kingsbury as the team navigates the 2021 season.
The Cardinals will be at home in Week 2 against an 0-1 Minnesota Vikings team, and they are currently 4.5-point favorites over at WynnBET. Minnesota will certainly be hungry in Week 2, as it lost in overtime to the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1.
