Ask the Oddsmakers: Chiefs Preparing to Make a Statement in Primetime vs. Raiders

For the first half of the season, I was "Kansas City will turn it around" Guy. Now that we're at the halfway point, I'm starting to wonder when we'll actually see it.

For weeks, I tempted fate, writing how Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs would never be a better value for a turnaround campaign. A few weeks later, I was then told by oddsmakers at WynnBET that Mahomes' MVP chances were considered 'slim-to-none'.

At 2-7 against the spread, with both wins coming on the road against awful NFC East teams in Philadelphia and Washington, the question remains, when will the Chiefs look like the team that was projected to be the favorite to win the Super Bowl? And when will Patrick Mahomes look like the top MVP candidate on the board?

Tonight in Las Vegas against the Raiders in primetime could be that opportunity.

Chiefs vs. Raiders Line Movement Has Gone Back and Forth

WynnBET trader Sawyer Johnson explained why the Chiefs, despite their inconsistencies and awful record against the spread, continue to be favored. He says for this week in particular, it's likely an indication of bettor overreaction from last week and previous weeks.

"I think the Kansas City Chiefs at -2.5 is better than it has led on," said Johnson.

"They'll want to make a statement in primetime."

The line for Sunday Night Football actually moved initially towards the Raiders before immediately going back to the Chiefs' side. After opening at Chiefs -3, the line briefly moved to Chiefs -2.5 (as indicated by Johnson), only to immediately move back up to -3.

Since Andy Reid took over in 2013, Kansas City has gone 36-13 against the AFC West. While a win will help Kansas City get to 6-4 and jump ahead of Las Vegas in the divisional standings, covering the 3-points in a statement game will likely move the Chiefs' Super Bowl odds of +1300 way back up.
