Kansas City Chiefs fans can’t be too happy with the first two weeks of the season, but there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic about the Super Bowl favorites going forward in 2021.

Kansas City blew a 35-24 lead against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday Night Football in Week 2, but despite the loss WynnBET Sportsbook still has the Chiefs projected to win 12.5 games this season with the over (+120) as the underdog to the under (-140).

There’s two ways that fans can look at this. First off, 12 or 13 wins would still put the Chiefs in a great spot to win the AFC, as only the Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders are 2-0 through the season’s first two weeks.

Secondly, the +120 odds on the over may be a great value, considering that the Chiefs have won 12 or more games in three straight seasons and get an extra game in the NFL’s 17-game slate in 2021.

Kansas City only has five remaining games against playoff teams from last season on the schedule, and it went 1-1 against two top contenders in the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore.

The biggest concern for the Chiefs has been their defense, as they’ve allowed the most yards in the NFL through the first two weeks and were absolutely gashed on the ground in Week 2 by the Ravens.

However, this isn’t uncharted territory for the reigning AFC champions. Kansas City won 12 games in the 2018 season despite allowing the second-most yards in the NFL and finishing 24th in points allowed.

While Chiefs fans don’t want a repeat performance in 2021, it shows that Patrick Mahomes and this offense are good enough to win Kansas City a boatload of games even with a subpar defense.

Stopping the run will be a point of emphasis going forward for Andy Reid’s club, but as long as Mahomes is under center, Kansas City is going to be just fine. If you look at the first two weeks, the fact that they went 1-1 against playoff teams (losing in Week 2 by one point) while having such poor defensive performances and only rushing for just 67.5 yards per game (29th in the NFL), the Chiefs almost have nowhere to go but up from here.

Kansas City will face the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 3 as it looks to right the ship. The Chiefs are 6.5-point favorites at home, but it is worth noting that they are just 1-11-1 against the spread in their last 13 games.
