With me being Canadian, I don’t have any personal attachment to any college in the United States which means that I’m free to cheer for any college sports team that I deem worthy of my fandom each year.

In college football, that team is usually the best school from a non-power five conference. During its 2017 and 2018 run, UCF was the team I rooted for and I have gone on record declaring them National Champions of 2017 as the only undefeated team in the country.

This year, it’s the Cincinnati Bearcats.

No school from a non-power five conference has been selected to participate in the College Football Playoff despite many of them finishing with undefeated records. Justified or not, I dream of the day that one of those schools gets a shot against the best in the country.

If it’s ever going to happen, this could be the year. Not only is Cincinnati looking like a strong program for the second straight season, but it has two pivotal non-conference games that could boost their resume enough to catch the attention of the College Football Playoff Selection Committee.

One of those games is set to take place this weekend as Cincinnati travels to Indiana to take on the Hoosiers. WynnBET currently has the Bearcats set as 3.5-point favorites and the total for the game is set at 50 points.

If Cincinnati can win this game as well as its Oct. 2 matchup against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, it just might have a strong enough resume to make the College Football Playoff, especially if it can win those games in convincing fashion.

The Bearcats have already received help in their journey to the playoff by both Clemson and Ohio State losing early in the season. That leaves the door to the fourth playoff spot open.

They’re still a longshot to pull it off, and WynnBET is giving them +10000 (100/1) odds to win the National Championship, but a guy can dream, can’t he?
