I know that I wrote in my CJ Cup Preview and Prediction piece Monday that I won’t bet any long shots and that it’s best to stick within the top 10 names on the odds list this week. But, I can’t resist.

Betting on longshots in golf is just too fun, and now that I’ve tasted what it’s like to win a 100/1 ticket, I need to just admit to myself that I’m going to sprinkle on some longshots in every tournament that I bet on.

Let’s jump right into it.

Here are my top three long shot bets to win this week’s CJ Cup at Summit Club. All odds listed are via WynnBET Sportsbook.

Talor Gooch +6500

If there’s going to be a longshot winner this week, it’s going to be someone who’s been playing well in the early tournaments of the 2021-22 season while the hot shots on Tour have been enjoying their “offseason”.

Talor Gooch fits that bill as he’s finished T4 and T11 in the two tournaments he’s competed in this season. He also ranks fourth on the PGA Tour in strokes gained: tee-to-green among all golfers who have competed in one of the first three events.

Rasmus Hojgaard +9000

Keep an eye on this 20-year old, because he’s on his way to being one of the top European golfers in the world. He already has five professional wins in his young career, with three of them coming on the European Tour.

At only 20 years old, he’s going to be a force to be reckoned with before too long.

His latest win came a couple of months ago in August at the Omega European Masters, so he’s proven that he can win events that boast a strong field. He’s worth a sprinkle at +9000 this week.

Lucas Glover +25000

This is just an insane price on a guy as skilled as Lucas Glover. 250/1 on a guy who won a PGA Tour event as recently as July? I’m in.

Glover has competed in two of the three events already this season, and while he didn’t exactly wow with his results, he still made the cut in both tournaments and should at least be more in the flow of competing compared to those who will be making their season debut.

Also, I love the irony that the man with the last name “Glover” is the only guy on the Tour who doesn’t wear a glove. He’s worth betting on for that fact alone.
