The Indianapolis Colts are moving on from Matt Ryan, and Sam Ehlinger, not Nick Foles is the next man up.

After falling to 3-3-1 following their 19-10 loss on the road to the Tennessee Titans in Week 7, head coach Frank Reich announced to the media Monday afternoon that they are making a change at the position.

"Right now the move is for Sam to be the starter for the rest of the season," Reich stated in his press conference.

"It's a big step but we think he's ready. This guy's special... Sam, he's got that about him. He plays, he practices in a way he'll be ready."

Ehlinger has appeared in just three games in his NFL career, not throwing once in any of his appearances. Nick Foles will be the backup quarterback with Ryan also suffering a Grade-2 shoulder sprain; making him inactive for Week 8 vs. the Washington Commanders.

The shift to Ehlinger remains a bit surprising, given that the Colts paid Nick Foles $4 million guaranteed to be the backup, and the team is only a game out of first place in a bad AFC South division.

Latest Commanders vs. Colts Odds, Spread and Total for NFL Week 8

The Colts opened up as 4-point home favorites against the Washington Commanders, but that line is now on the move at almost every sportsbook in the country. Consensus odds now have the Colts as a 2.5 to 3-point favorite vs. Washington, who upset the Green Bay Packers at home in Week 7.

The total also continues to drop. After opening at 42.5, most books now have it anywhere between 41-41.5 on the board this Monday.

BetSided's Josh Yourish wrote in his initial game preview why he's backing the under from Indianapolis this week, citing both teams' strong defenses playing some of their better football of late; including Washington ranked fifth-best in the NFL in completion percentage.
