D'Andre Swift vs. Jamaal Williams: Who Will Have More Rushing Yards in Week 1?
By Thomas Snodgrass
The Detroit Lions have an interesting backfield tandem. We have a second-year running back with high upside in D’Andre Swift versus a four-year veteran running back that was the man behind Aaron Jones in Green Bay in Jamaal Williams.
WynnBET Sportsbook has set its lines on rushing yards for each of Swift and Williams, Swift at 43.5 rushing yards, and Williams at 29.5 rushing yards in their Week 1 clash with the San Francisco 49ers.
All told, those numbers are pretty close. And with a team that’s expected to have a negative game script, with potentially lots of passing to stay in this one, these rushing yard prop totals look darn accurate from my seat.
But who will have more rushing yards?
Swift picked up 521 rushing yards on the ground last season, averaging 4.6 yards per carry, behind, arguably, one of the more underrated offensive lines in the NFL, which includes the talented center Frank Ragnow.
Williams averaged a similar, but not as good, 4.2 yards per carry in 2020. Green Bay’s average offensive line could only do so much for Williams, so maybe Williams can pick up bigger chunks of yards on the ground in 2021.
While Swift sat out of the preseason due to injury, Williams had just nine carries for 15 yards on the exhibition schedule. Not too much to go on, there.
The Lions will also be without starting left tackle Taylor Decker to open this season, which is a huge blow to the entire offense.
Due to his being a second round draft pick, and probably having a bit of a longer leash, Swift should have more rushing yards than Williams in Week 1. I’ll say Swift picks up more than his listed 43.5 rushing yards on WynnBET.
