Top Home Run Picks for Wednesday, May 25
- Cody Bellinger (+380)
- Joey Votto (+240)
- Tyler Naquin (+300)
- Ronald Acuña Jr. (+320)
- Shohei Ohtani (+290) - available at WynnBET Sportsbook
Cody Bellinger (+380) - Los Angeles Dodgers at Washington Nationals
Mookie Betts is a Dodger on fire right now. He’s hit four home runs in as many games and has 12 on the season to lead L.A
However, I’m going to fade Betts to back the second-leading Dodger today. Bellinger last hit a homer two weeks ago, but has a good matchup today vs. right-hander Erick Fedde. The Nationals allow the fifth-most home runs per game and gave up four home runs last night.
Washington is liable to be taken deep and Bellinger will get his turn today. -- Donnavan Smoot
Joey Votto (+240) - Cincinnati Reds vs. Chicago Cubs
When you're hitting a buck 44 with one home run on the season, and your odds are still +240 to go yard, you have to assume the oddsmakers know something.
In the case of Votto, it has everything to do with the pitching matchup against Cubs right-hander Kyle Hendricks.
Votto has owned his soul over the course of his career. In 52 plate appearances, Votto is hitting .361 with a .778 slugging percentage and an on-base percentage of .539. Votto has walked 15 times while striking out just seven vs. Hendricks, while also clubbing four home runs and seven extra base hits.
Hendricks also continues to serve up dingers on a platter this year, ranking third among starting pitchers in HR/9 at 1.81.
The rest of the Reds' offense may not strike fear in the heart of today's Cubs starter, but even at age 38, Votto lurks. -- Ben Heisler
Tyler Naquin (+300) - Cincinnati Reds vs. Chicago Cubs
We’re going really deep for this home run pick, but it’s a combo of betting on a hot bat and fading a starter who loves to give up the long ball.
Hendricks has allowed 10 homers already this season, the third most in MLB, entering his starter against the Reds on Wednesday. The Reds are terrible, but outfielder Tyler Naquin has been solid this season, hitting five homers and batting .270 for Cincy through 35 games.
Over the last seven days, Naquin has homered twice and is slugging .667, and those numbers are even better over his last two weeks where he is slugging .721. Of Naquin’s 55 career homers, 49 have come against a right-handed pitcher.
I think he’s got a solid shot to go deep on Wednesday against the Cubbies. -- Peter Dewey
Ronald Acuña Jr. (+320) - Atlanta Braves vs. Philadelphia Phillies
Acuna has been hitting well since coming back from knee surgery, .292, but the homers aren't there yet with just two.
He is slugging nearly 160 points higher against lefties and will be facing Ranger Suarez on Wednesday at the hitter friendly SunTrust Park.
Let's back the star to go deep with a favorable set up. -- Reed Wallach
Shohei Ohtani (+290) - Los Angeles Angels vs. Texas Rangers
The Angels get the chance to face Glenn Otto of the Rangers tonight, and they should be drooling over the opportunity to go yard against him.
Otto sports a 5.55 ERA this season; allowing 1,5 home runs per nine innings.
I could go with a longshot instead, but I'll feel comfortable backing the reigning AL MVP in Shohei Ohtani to hit his 10th dinger of the season -- Iain MacMillan
