Dak Prescott vs. Matt Ryan: Who Will Throw For More Yards?
The Atlanta Falcons head to Dallas to take on the Cowboys in NFL Week 10 action. The last time these two teams met, it was Week 2 of the 2020 season and the Cowboys stormed back to score 16 straight points late in the 4th quarter and steal the victory by a final score of 40-39.
Matt Ryan and Dak Prescott dueled in outstanding fashion in their meeting. Prescott threw for 450 yards and completed 72.34% of passes. Ryan also had a solid performance, throwing for 273 yards and four touchdowns while completing 66.67% of throws.
This week, the Cowboys are set as 9-point favorites at WynnBET. So, which quarterback will have the better game in this year's edition? Let's take a look at the odds.
Matt Ryan 290.5 Passing Yards: Over -125/Under -115
Matt Ryan has shown flashes of his 2016 MVP season during his 2021 campaign, and he's been the highest rated quarterback since Week 3, according to Pro Football Focus.
He's surpassed his set total of 290.5 yards in 50% of his starts this season, including three of the Falcons last four games. He has a few things going for him this week that makes me think the OVER 290.5 will be a good bet.
First, Ryan is facing a Cowboys defense that ranks 24th in opponent yards per pass attempt (7.4) and 25th in total opponent passing yards per game (270.5). Secondly, if the game goes the way oddsmakers think, the Falcons should be fighting from behind for the majority of the contest, which will give Ryan plenty of opportunities to through the ball.
Pick OVER 290.5 passing yards -125
Dak Prescott 302.5 Passing Yards: Over -125/Under -115
Dak Prescott has only thrown for more than 302.5 passing yards twice this season, but both time he achieved that feat, he blew the number out of the water. He threw for 403 yards in Week 1 against the Buccaneeers, and 445 yards against the Patriots in Week 6.
This week, Prescott will be playing against one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL in AJ Terrell.
With that being said, the Falcons have little depth in the secondary and any side that Terrell isn't lining up on, will be open throughout the contest. Even if that's the case, I'm going to take the UNDER on Prescott's passing yards total.
The way to beat the Falcons is to run the ball against them. 43.8% of the yards gained against the Falcons comes on the ground, which is the eighth highest in the NFL. Considering Dallas is averaging 4.9 yards per carry, they should keep the ball in Ezekiel Elliott's and Tony Pollard's hand all game.
Dak has the arm to throw hit the OVER on his passing yards total, but the game flow won't allow him to get there.
Pick: UNDER 302.5 Passing Yards -115
