Dejounte Murray Makes Major Leap in Odds to Win Most Improved Player Award
By Peter Dewey
Dejounte Murray continues to fly under the radar in San Antonio, as he’s having an impressive season for a struggling San Antonio Spurs squad.
While you may not hear much about Murray as one of the better young guards in the NBA, he is making another leap in his sixth NBA season that is turning heads in Vegas.
He’s not going to put himself on the Ja Morant, Trae Young, LaMelo Ball level considering he’s in his sixth year, but the 25-year old has moved into third at WynnBET in the latest odds to win the NBA’s Most Improved Player award.
With Morant going down to an ankle injury and Michael Porter Jr. out for the season with a back injury, the Spurs guard has a legit shot to win this award. Miles Bridges, Tyler Herro and Jordan Poole still certainly pose a threat to Murray’s chances, but he stacks up well in the latest odds.
Latest Odds to Win NBA’s Most Improved Player Award
- Miles Bridges: +250
- Ja Morant: +350
- Dejounte Murray: +1200
- Tyler Herro: +1600
- Jordan Poole: +2000
- Anthony Edwards: +2500
- LaMelo Ball: +3500
- Darius Garland: +4000
- OG Anunoby: +5000
Over his last nine games, Murray is averaging 20.8 points, 8.9 rebounds and 7.9 assists per game while shooting 45.7 percent from the field.
He’s also been an elite defender this season, averaging 2.0 steals per game and posting a 1.6 defensive box/plus minus already this season. All of his numbers have seen a jump from the 2021-22 campaign, but he’s going to need the Spurs to be competitive in the playoff race to truly move into contention with Morant and Bridges.
There are worse dark horse options on the board at this point of the season, and Murray’s two-way ability certainly makes him an intriguing candidate.
