I cannot wait for the Atlanta Falcons-Philadelphia Eagles game come Week 1. Mainly because I’m an Eagles fan, but one of the best matchups for that game is between two players who won’t even face each other one-on-one.

DeVonta Smith and Kyle Pitts were two of the best receiving prospects in this year’s draft, and now the top 10 picks get to debut against each other. Pitts and Smith are both in the top three on the odds list to lead the rookie class in receiving yards in Week 1, which makes that Week 1 matchup even more interesting.

WynnBET is giving Smith the nod as the favorite at +300 odds, while Pitts is +500. Despite Pitts having to share the spotlight with Calvin Ridley, he should have enough room to go out and have a solid debut. The Eagles gave up 835 yards to tight ends last season, which was around the middle of the pack. However, Philadelphia gave up nine touchdowns to tight ends, which was tied for the fourth-most in the league. Pitts is going to be used in a myriad of ways, so he should be able to build on that and have a solid game.

Despite that, my pick is going to be DeVonta Smith, solely because he is the No. 1 receiver and will be Hurts’ main target. The Eagles drafted Smith because of their ineptitude at receiver and he is going to get all the opportunities in the world to make Philadelphia look smart by taking him.

Smith is going to be one of the fastest players on the field, allowing the Eagles to have a vertical threat as well as a short passing game. Atlanta allowed the most passing yards per game of any team last year. If Smith and Hurts can have a solid connection, Smith is going to have a great debut.
