Don't Worry About Rams' Super Bowl Odds Taking Hit Before Week 1

Is the hype around the Matthew Stafford-led Los Angeles Rams cooling off before the 2021 regular season starts?

The oddsmakers at WynnBET Sportsbook have moved the Rams’ Super Bowl odds from +1200 to +1500 ahead of Week 1, giving the San Francisco 49ers (+1200) the lowest Super Bowl odds in the NFC West.

The Rams and 49ers both were +180 to win the NFC West, but WynnBET has temporarily removed the division odds prior to Week 1.

It’s an interesting move considering the Rams' odds stayed put despite a key injury to second-year running back Cam Akers earlier this offseason. Los Angeles traded for former first-round pick Sony Michel to help fix its running back depth, but Vegas seems less confident in Los Angeles now than it did entering training camp.

Personally, I think the Rams will be just fine. Stafford is a major upgrade over the turnover-prone Jared Goff, and the loss of Akers can be filled by Darrell Henderson and Michel as long as the Rams’ offensive line can hold up.

San Francisco made the Super Bowl holding a last-place schedule in the 2019 season, and it will face a similar situation in 2021, but there are too many questions at quarterback in San Fran for me to trust the 49ers as a legitimate Super Bowl contender.

Jimmy Garoppolo will be the starter, partly because of Trey Lance’s finger injury, it’s hard to be confident in Jimmy G when his own team showed how little they think of him as a franchise quarterback by taking Lance at No. 3 overall in this year’s draft.

Lance has a ton of potential, but he also only played one game at North Dakota State last season. The Rams have a proven quarterback and one of the game’s best head coaches in Sean McVay. Plus, they return several key players from last year’s No. 1 defense.

There may be some growing pains for Stafford as he’s in a new offense and didn’t play in the preseason, but the Rams are going to be one of the best teams in the NFC this season.

Oddsmakers may be backing off the Rams, but I’d expect them to quickly move up the Super Bowl odds as they season goes on. If you think +1500 is a good enough value to take Los Angeles to win the title, this may be your last chance.
