Elijah Moore’s debut was… forgettable.

He had four targets, one catch and -3 yards. He literally was a net negative in the box score. Moore got the start since Jamison Crowder was out due to being on the COVID list. He had a chance for a big play, but it ended up being a clip of how great Zach Wilson’s arm is rather than a highlight for Moore.

Despite Moore’s poor showing, the oddsmakers still have faith in him. WynnBET has his odds to lead the rookie class in receiving at +250, which is only slightly behind Ja’Marr Chase at +220.

Moore’s odds show that Vegas believes he will be special, considering how good Chase was in Week 1. Chase finished the day with 5 catches, 101 yards and a touchdown. Moore is 104 yards behind him, but won’t be anywhere near Chase if he continues to have performances like he had against the Panthers.

Not only is Moore going to have to overcome Chase, but also Jamison Crowder. The Jets announced today that they have activated Crowder, which means the Jets’ offense has another mouth to feed this week against the Patriots

With Crowder back in the mix, that leaves Moore on the sidelines waiting for an opportunity to redeem himself. He’s going to have to make big plays, and fast to overtake Crowder, or Corey Davis or Keelan Cole.

Although Moore and Wilson had a good rapport during the preseason, that chemistry didn’t provide dividends in Week 1, so Moore has to start from the bottom again.

Rookies are bound to go through ups and downs, but Moore is going to need a lot of ups to make up his deficit behind Chase.
