The Dallas Cowboys’ offense was dealt a massive blow ahead of Thursday’s season opener against the defending champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

All-Pro guard Zack Martin will now miss the contest after being placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

Martin is the key to Dallas’ run offense, and running back Ezekiel Elliott offered an honest assessment of how much his absence will hurt the team in Thursday’s game.

"Zack's our best player on our offense. I mean most runs, they coming back behind him," Elliott said. "It's disappointing but you can't harp on it, can't let it be more than what it is. I mean, definitely going to miss him, definitely wish he was out there, but we still have a game to go play and we got to try and get the job done."

The Cowboys are currently 7.5-point underdogs at WynnBET in the season opener, and it’s going to be really hard to trust them against a strong Tampa Bay defense that locked down Kansas City in last year’s Super Bowl.

The Bucs are returning all 22 starters from last season’s title run, and they finished the 2020 season with the eighth-best scoring defense in football. Dallas’ defense was suspect in 2020 and even with the addition of Micah Parsons, it’s hard to trust them to keep Tom Brady and company out of the end zone.

The Bucs are +850 favorites to be the NFL’s highest scoring team in Week 1.

With Martin out, bettors may want to fade the Cowboys, but back Dak Prescott to have a big game. If the Bucs go up big and the running game is struggling for Dallas, Prescott is going to have to throw the ball as many times as his arm can handle to keep the Cowboys competitive.

WynnBET Sportsbook currently has Prescott at +400 (second) to lead the NFL in passing yards this season.  If you’re going to bet on the Cowboys because you hate Brady or the Bucs, taking WynnBET’s “Triple the Spread” offer may be your best chance for them to cover.

That way, bettors can get the Cowboys at +22.5 in Thursday’s season opener, which is much more manageable than the current 7.5 line.

Hopefully for Dallas Martin can recover quickly and be ready for Week 2, but his absence clearly puts a damper on the team’s offensive firepower.
