New York Giants fans can start getting their No. 26 jerseys ready for Week 1, as NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that star running back Saquon Barkley is close to being fully cleared for the team’s Week 1 matchup against the Denver Broncos.

Barkley, who tore his ACL in Week 2 of the 2020 season, has been ramping up his participation in recent weeks, and it appears he will be ready to take the field in the season opener. This is huge news for the Giants, as they finished with the league’s second-worst offense last season.

WynnBET does not have Barkley listed in its prop for the player to lead the NFL in rushing and receiving yards in Week 1, but he has remained at +7500 odds to take home the league’s MVP award this season.

While Barkley winning the MVP is a long shot, he should give the Giants a much better chance against the Broncos in Week 1. Denver was 25th in the league in rushing defense last season, allowing 2,080 yards. With Barkley in the lineup, even if he’s on a snap count, the Giants should be able to take advantage of Denver even though Von Miller is back after missing all of the 2020 season.

WynnBET currently has the Broncos as 2.5-point favorites for Sunday’s matchup and the total for the game is set at 42.0.

While Barkley is arguably the most important playmaker the Giants have, it will be up to Daniel Jones and Teddy Bridgewater to decide the outcome of this game. Both quarterbacks are looking to prove that they deserve the starting job for their respective teams in what should be a close Week 1 matchup.

If Barkley does clear all the necessary hurdles to suit up on Sunday, don’t be surprised if the line tilts slightly towards the Giants ahead of kickoff.
