You know when you get that shiny new toy and then it's not quite as glamorous as you thought it would be? That's how the San Diego Padres may feel after losing four of five since their incredible trade deadline.

They've got an opportunity to win a series against the San Francisco Giants today however, with Sean Manaea taking on Jakob Junis.

Manaea has been particularly awful of late. He's got an 8.28 ERA in his last five starts and just gave up eight runs to the Dodgers last week.

Junis is still ramping up to speed, having not thrown more than four innings since returning from injury. The Giants are 5-2 in his last seven outings though, and the only time he allowed more than three runs in a start was back in May against these same Padres.

Can San Diego get to Junis again or will San Francisco pull out a series win?

Let's check out the odds from WynnBET Sportsbook to help find the value in this Giants vs Padres matchup:

Giants vs Padres Prediction and Pick

Sean Manaea looks like he's trying to read a map in a different language: the poor guy is completely lost.

After giving up eight runs to the Dodgers in his worst start of the season, Manaea's ERA over his last five starts ballooned to 8.28 and he's got a FIP (Fielding Independent Pitching) worse than 5.28 in four of his last six outings.

The Giants are struggling of late themselves, losing five of six as road underdogs, but four of those games came against the Dodgers. I can forgive those losses, but I can't forgive Manaea's recent performance.

Junis, meanwhile, has a FIP under 3.57 in each of his last three starts. I think he's a considerably better pitcher than Manaea, so the Giants have an edge early.

That being said, San Francisco's bullpen is an atrocity and cannot be trusted. Thus, I'll back the Giants on the first five innings to maximize the advantage Junis gives over Manaea. Manaea is on the road to nowhere - we might as well take advantage.
