Is Jameis Winston Playing Tonight? (Latest Injury Update for Saints vs. Cardinals in NFL Week 7)
By Peter Dewey
The New Orleans Saints take on the Arizona Cardinals in Week 7 on Thursday Night Football, and it looks like Andy Dalton will once again be under center for the Saints.
Quarterback Jameis Winston is making progress from a back and ankle injury, but was not able to practice in full this week. It's likely that the team starts Dalton again in his place, although Winston could be active as a potential backup in Week 7.
The Saints are currently underdogs against the Cardinals, but Dalton isn't a major drop off from Winston, even at this point in his career.
New Orleans is 1-2 with Dalton as the team's starter, but he's done a good job taking care of the ball, throwing just one interception in his three starts. The Saints lost to the Minnesota Vikings by three points and the Cincinnati Bengals by four points under Dalton.
Does that give New Orleans some value on Thursday night? The Cardinals have struggled mightily to start this season, and Kliff Kingsbury is just 4-11 against the spread as a home favorite as the Cardinals' head coach.
For those looking to bet on Dalton props, they may want to consider the UNDER on his passing attempts in this game.
Dalton has only cleared this line in one of his three games this season, and it came with the Saints fighting from behind against the Bengals in Week 6. If New Orleans gets the lead early in this one, the team may rely on the running game of Alvin Kamara and Taysom Hill.
Also, Hill has mixed in at quarterback at points this season, throwing five passes over the last two weeks. That could take away from Dalton's work in Week 7.
It's unclear when Winston will be healthy enough to practice in full and return to action. As long as Dalton is serviceable, it makes sense that the Saints would hold Winston out until he is closer to 100 percent.
