The New England Patriots since winning seven straight have lost two consecutive games and are currently in the No. 6 spot in the AFC. Despite being at the top of the AFC just a few weeks ago, they're still in danger of missing the playoffs altogether even with a 9-6 record.

The good news is they are in a great rebound spot here against the Jacksonville Jaguars who can't seem to get out of their own way. They had a real chance to beat the Jets last week but blew it at the end thanks to penalties and blown defensive assignments.

While the spread here is massive, let's not forget that we are talking about a rookie QB going into Foxboro to take on Bill Belichick.

Jaguars vs. Patriots Prediction and Pick

While Trevor Lawrence was the No. 1 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, it has been Mac Jones who has been the most impressive rookie signal-caller this year. Jones, the No. 15 pick in the draft, is probably going to win the OROY award this season over Ja'Marr Chase.

While Lawrence is immensely talented, he's struggled in his rookie season and will have to contend with the Patriots’ No. 1 ranked scoring defense this weekend. NE is allowing opponents to score just 17.3 points per game and are in the top-5 of opponents' yards per game, yards per play, and third-down conversion percentage. They've held opposing quarterbacks to a completion percentage of just 58.69% and 5.9 yards per pass. For a quarterback like Lawrence who has a TD/INT mark of 9/14, this is a big problem. Honestly, Lawrence might have the worst game of his young career on Sunday.

We also have to consider the motivation to win this game. The Patriots have their postseason future on the line while the Jaguars are playing for what little pride they have left after a 2-13 season. I normally don’t bet on favorites in the NFL with spreads this large but in this case, I am going to have to make an exception. The Jaguars have not covered once in their last six games and have recently been beat up by the Rams, Titans, and the lowly Texans. Even the Jets beat them last week.

While the Patriots' offense is no powerhouse, Belichick will have his team ready to pick the Jaguars apart on both sides of the field. I expect them to win easily and handily on Sunday.

Pick: New England Patriots  -15.5 (-110)
