The New York Jets find themselves in a familiar position in Week 18 against the Buffalo Bills. The Jets are significant underdogs in this game with more than two touchdowns.

While the odds have shifted ever so slightly from their opening marks, oddsmakers are giving the Jets little hope of remaining competitive in the season finale.  There is even a possibility that the Jets see what they have on their bench and let the second-string players tryout ahead of time for the next season.

Meanwhile, the Bills are playing with the AFC East division title on the line. The Bills control their own destiny and a win guarantees them the division. It would be their first title since they won four in a row between 1988-91. If the Bills lose they would need the Patriots to lose in order to keep their top spot. If both teams tie, Buffalo will be the AFC East champ.

Jets vs. Bills Prediction and Pick

On paper, the Buffalo Bills match up very well against the Jets. To be fair most teams do but the Bills specifically. The Bills are third-best in the NFL in terms of scoring offense at 28.5 points per game and fifth in total offensive yards per game at 379.3. The Jets, meanwhile rank dead last in the NFL in the same statistics on the defensive end. New York allows an average of 29.8 points per game and 396 total yards.

Now, I should mention that the 4-12 Jets have been playing much better lately than their record suggest. Not much better but they are scoring enough to stay in games over the last three weeks. Each of their last three games ended within a touchdown and was highlighted by a win over the Jaguars.

They also almost beat the Buccaneers last week. But, as usual, their defense let them down and allowed Tom Brady to go off in the second half for an epic comeback win. In fact, the Jets were leading the game all the way until there were less than 20 seconds left on the clock.

So, if the Jets are able to build a lead, the defense will blow it. And if they are not, they will eventually get blown out on the other end. Between the need for a win here, the hot streak the Bills are on and the emergence of Devin Singletary, the Jets are dead in the water here.

I was on them at -17 earlier in the week so the 16 point spread almost feels like a late Christmas gift.

Pick: Buffalo Bills -16 (-110)
