Julian Edelman is Betting Big on a Patriots-Bucs Super Bowl Matchup
By Ben Heisler
After not playing the NFL postseason for the first time in his 11-year career last season, former New England Patriots star wide receiver Julian Edelman didn't want to miss out two years in a row.
While he won't be able to grab a helmet and shoulder pads this January, he found a different way to experience the NFL Playoffs: by betting them.
Edelman announced via his Twitter account that over at WynnBET, he's betting $100,000 on the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers to rematch in Super Bowl LVI in Los Angeles.
It's the perfect bet for Edelman, who played his entire career with New England, but also has ties to the Bucs with former teammates Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski. This way, he doesn't have to pick a winner between the two; just as long as both sides make it to the big game in L.A.
The Bucs played the Pats in Foxboro back in Week 4, as Tom Brady made his highly anticipated return to Gillette Stadium for the first time since leaving New England for Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers ended up winning 19-17, winning straight up but failing to cover the 6.5-point spread.
What are the Odds of Patriots vs. Buccaneers Super Bowl?
Edelman bet $50,000 on each side of the AFC and NFC futures for Tampa Bay and New England to meet up.
Over at WynnBET, the Patriots are +750, or 7.5/1 odds as the No. 6 seed in the AFC to win the conference, which would total $375,000 on his $50K bet. If a novice bettor put down $100, that would profit $750, or 7.5x his bet.
Since Edelman's bet, the oddsmakers at WynnBET have moved the Patriots line down to +650, or 6.5/1 odds. New England is currently a 4.5-point underdog vs. the Buffalo Bills.
As for the Buccaneers, Edelman got them at +340 odds earlier in the day. His $50K bet would profit $170,000. As of this writing, Tampa Bay has moved down to +300 in the latest odds over at WynnBET.
Tampa Bay has moved to a 9-point favorite at home against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday afternoon.
