MLB Best Bets Today (Padres Live to Upset Mets, First 5 Inning Prop to Bet)
By Peter Dewey
It's nice to have full slates of Major League Baseball following the All-Star break, and I have a pair of picks for the action on July 24.
First, I'm looking at arguably the best pitching matchup of the day between Dylan Cease and Shane Bieber in Chicago with a first five inning play. Next, we're heading to New York for Sunday Night Baseball between the New York Mets and San Diego Padres.
Let's jump into the picks, with all odds via WynnBET:
MLB Best Bets Today
- Cleveland Guardians vs. Chicago White Sox: First 5 Innings UNDER 3.5 (-110)
- San Diego Padres Moneyline vs. New York Mets (+115)
Cleveland Guardians vs. Chicago White Sox: First 5 Innings UNDER 3.5 (-110)
We have an elite pitching matchup in Chicago on Sunday, as Cy Young candidates Shane Bieber and Dylan Cease will face off in the Cleveland Guardians-Chicago White Sox matchup.
Cease has been terrific this season despite his All-Star snub, posting a 2.15 ERA and allowing one or fewer earned runs in 10 straight starts. His last outing before the All-Star break he tossed seven innings of one-hit ball against the Minnesota Twins.
As for Bieber, his FIP (Fielding Independent Pitching) of 2.74 suggests that his 3.24 ERA has been a bit unlucky so far this season. However, he’s coming off arguably his best start of the season, a three-hit complete game, against these very same White Sox.
I trust both pitchers to keep this game low scoring, so I’ll back the first five UNDER and take the bullpens out of play.
San Diego Padres vs. New York Mets: Padres ML (+115)
I’m going to take a shot on the Padres as a short underdog on the road against a Mets team that has lost three straight games.
Joe Musgrove (8-2, 2.42 ERA) gets the ball for the Padres against Carlos Carrasco (10-4, 4.27 ERA) in this matchup. Musgrove has been one of the best pitchers in the game this season, and I think he can slow down a struggling Mets team tonight.
Carrasco has gotten better in July after posting a 6.37 ERA in June, but the Mets’ offense is the concern here. New York has scored four or fewer runs in five straight games and now has to take on one of baseball’s best arms.
I like the Friars at plus money in this one.
