MLB Best Bets Today (Target Two Plays for Yankees vs. Rays, Total in NL West Matchup)
By Ben Heisler
There's plenty of intrigue ahead of Monday's action in the Majors, highlighted by several outstanding pitching matchups and some meaningful division matchups as we head into the final stretch of June.
For today's best bets, I've got two plays I love from the Game of the Night in the AL East when the Tampa Bay Rays host the New York Yankees. I also love a total, despite it being at a somewhat low number in the NL West in the latter portion of the night.
Let’s dive into today's favorite picks, with odds courtesy of WynnBET:
MLB Best Bets Today
- Rays +120 vs. Yankees
- Ji-Man Choi OVER 0.5 Total Bases (-125)
- Diamondbacks vs. Padres UNDER 7.5 (-120)
Rays +120 vs. Yankees
Fade Shane McClanahan at home? In THIS economy? Can't do it, and I won't do it.
The Rays have had a rough go over their last road trip, going 2-7 and falling further out of the most competitive division in the sport. But with McClanahan going at home, they're in a very good bounce back spot tonight.
As BetSided's Matt De Saro pointed out in today's MLB Underdog Pick of the Day, McClanahan has allowed only two runs in 12 innings vs. the Yankees this year; striking out 14 along the way. Conversely, Cole has struggled vs. Tampa Bay; giving up 20 extra-base hits in 148 AB's to their current lineup. He's also sen his Fielder Independent Pitching (FIP) numbers go from 2.51 at home, to 4.66 on the road.
Tampa is live as a short dog at home, even against someone as talented as Cole.
Ji-Man Choi OVER 0.5 Total Bases (-125)
Let's stay at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg and go with Rays first baseman and DH Ji-Man Choi to find himself on-base at least once tonight vs. Cole and the Yankees.
Cole has simply not figured out Choi over the course of his career. In 35 plate appearances, the left-handed slugger is hitting .393 with a slugging percentage of .929 and an on-base percentage of .514. Essentially, he's on base more than 50% of the time he faces Cole, and assuming he gets three at-bats, your bet is already looking good based on the numbers.
Diamondbacks vs. Padres UNDER 7.5 (-120)
Ever since I started writing about the human gas can, Zach Davies, he's made me eat plenty of crow.
Since the start of June, Davies has been terrific on the mound for Arizona; going 20.2 innings in three starts while allowing just three runs and striking out 20. He'll face a Padres lineup tonight without recent NL MVP favorite Manny Machado; leaving Sunday's game with a left ankle sprain and could miss several weeks.
Meanwhile, Padres Yu Darvish has been even better. He's 5-0 with a 1.35 ERA at home this season, and has gone seven innings in five of his last seven starts.
BetSided's Joe Summers is also on tonight's NL West matchup as part of his favorite MLB Parlay picks for tonight.
