Best MLB Prop Bets for Tuesday, May 31

  • Jordan Montgomery OVER 4.5 strikeouts (-155)
  • Trevor Williams UNDER 3.5 Strikeouts (-140)
  • Blake Snell UNDER 5.5 Strikeouts (-115)
  • Edward Cabrera OVER 3.5 Strikeouts (-135)

Jordan Montgomery OVER 4.5 strikeouts (-155) - Yankees vs. Angels

The New York Yankees and Jordan Montgomery have a major series coming up against the Los Angeles Angels this week, and I think Monty gets New York on track on Tuesday night.

Montgomery hasn’t been a strikeout machine this season, but he’s been steady, recording at least four punch outs in seven of his nine starts.Montgomery has gone over 4.5 K’s in just four starts this season, but he faces an Angels team that averages 9.2 strikeouts per game on the season and 10.2 per game on the road.

I think five K’s is doable for Montgomery, especially since he’s been fairly consistent, pitching five or more innings in all but two starts in 2022. -- Peter Dewey

Trevor Williams UNDER 3.5 Strikeouts (-140) - Mets vs. Nationals

Trevor Williams isn't exactly a strikeout pitcher. he only averages 8.7 strikeouts per nine innings, and he only recorded two in two of his last four outings.

To make matters worse for him, he's facing the Nationals tonight who have the best strikeout rate in baseball at 19.1%. He's faced them in two games already this season, recording zero strikeouts in a relief appearance on April 10th, and only two strikeouts across 3.2 innings on May 11th.

I like the UNDER on his total tonight. -- Iain MacMillan

Blake Snell UNDER 5.5 Strikeouts (-115) - Padres at Cardinals

It's been a small sample size (two games) for Snell in 2022, but I'm concerned for this matchup against the Cardinals.

For starters, the Cards are scorching at the dish and do very well against left handed pitching. Led by the likes of Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado, St. Louis is second in batting average against lefties this season at .283 and has the third lowest strikeout rate.

Snell tossed five strikeouts in just 3.2 innings against the Phillies (5th in K-rate vs. lefties) in his first start and seven in 5.2 innings against the Brewers (8th). However, I'm going to fade Snell in this spot with the Cards ability to crush lefties and take his under K prop. -- Reed Wallach

Edward Cabrera OVER 3.5 Strikeouts (-135) - Marlins at Rockies

"Welcome back to the Big Leagues, kid. Your first game is at Coors Field. Go get em."

Cabrera is the top pitching prospect in the Marlins organization, and while it's not ideal to make one's debut at the hitter-friendly confines of Coors Field, the strikeout prop is much less of a concern than how long he might go.

In the minors this season, Cabrera in five starts at Triple-A averaged 12.17 strikeouts per nine innings. While he still will walk the ballpark (4.56 walks/nine), if he can throw strikes, there's plenty of swing and miss for him to rack up punchouts vs. a team that's never seen him before.

3.5 feels like a reasonable number to climb for an arm as talented as Cabreras. -- Ben Heisler
