Coming into the season, Cade Cunningham and Jalen Green were the favorites to win Rookie of the Year. But it became evident almost immediately that this was going to be Evan Mobley's award to lose.

Mobley quickly emerged as one of the best defensive players in the entire league, showcasing an impressive ability to guard players on the perimeter but especially at the rim, where opponents are shooting 14.5% worse than average when he's defending.

As the Cavaliers continue to impress and have become one of the surprises of the NBA season, Mobley's Rookie of the Year odds have skyrocketed.

Evan Mobley Rookie of the Year Odds

WynnBET Sportsbook has Mobley listed at -700 to take home the award and barring catastrophe, he'll win. Cunningham and Scottie Barnes sit at +900 while Josh Giddey is fourth at +1000. But none of them have had nearly as complete a season as the big man from USC.

He's averaging 14.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.8 blocks, and 0.8 steals per game on 53% shooting while holding down a Cavaliers defense that ranks 4th leaguewide in defensive rating.

I mean, just look at this guy.

I'd say it's as easy as taking candy from a baby, but even that might be disrespectful to the ease with which Mobley erases this shot attempt. Rookies aren't supposed to be able to do that.

He's turning into one of the best building blocks in all of basketball and Cleveland has to overjoyed he fell to them at #3 in the draft. As the Cavaliers keep winning and Mobley grows more comfortable, he'll keep distancing himself from the Rookie of the Year field.

Honestly, I'd start setting aside some money to put down on Mobley to win next year's Defensive Player of the Year. He's a phenom and will only be looking to add to his trophy case after he wins Rookie of the Year here in a couple months.
