NFC East Odds: Vegas Not Ruling Out Washington Football Team Despite Fitzpatrick Injury
By Reed Wallach
The NFC East had an eventful Week 1 for a myriad of different reasons, but the biggest development was the injury to Washington Football Team starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Fitzpatrick suffered a right hip subluxation on Sunday in the team’s loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. While he is going to undergo more tests, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Fitzpatrick will likely be out between six and eight weeks.
Washington Football Team's Odds to win the NFC East
Oddsmakers reacted to the move, but believe that Washington is still in the mix in the crowded division. Fitzpatrick’s replacement, Taylor Heinicke showed promise last season, including playing the eventual Super Bowl Champions Tampa Bay Buccaneers close in the Wild Card round.
WynnBET listed WFT’s odds to win the NFC East for the second straight year at +250.
Of course, no team in that division has won back-to-back division titles since 2004.
Dallas Cowboys' Odds to win the NFC East
Meanwhile, the Dallas Cowboys remain the favorite to win the division despite dropping their opener to Tampa Bay. However, the result was promising considering Dak Prescott looked like his old self before he suffered a fractured ankle last season.
WynnBET lists the Cowboys at +145 to win the NFC East after Prescott passed for 403 yards and three touchdowns.
Philadelphia Eagles' Odds to win the NFC East
The only team that won their opening game was the Philadelphia Eagles, behind the play of second-year quarterback Jalen Hurts and incredible defense. Hurts torched the Atlanta Falcons defense, completing 27-of-35 passes for 264 yards and three touchdowns. Philly won 32-6, holding Atlanta to just 4.1 yards per play.
The Eagles remain the third choice, though, sitting at +300.
New York Giants Odds to win the NFC East
Lastly, the New York Giants lost to the Denver Broncos 27-13, an underwhelming performance at home by all accounts.
New York’s offense was stuck in neutral for most of the day as the team waits for Saquon Barkley to return to a superstar level. Barkley only saw 29 snaps in Week 1 and had 10 carriers for 26 yards in his first game back from a torn ACL last season.
Big Blue travels to face the Football Team on Thursday Night Football this week in what feels like a must-win game for both sides. The Giants are +450 to win the division with questions concerning Barkley, and the play of Daniel Jones, who had a crucial fumble inside the red zone in the second half on Sunday.
Washington sits as a three-point home favorite at WynnBET with a total of 41.
