Detroit Lions at Minnesota Vikings (-9.0) | Total 49.5
THE PLAY: OVER 49.5
The spread is a tough call in this game, so I’m looking at the total in this game. I’m going to go with the OVER 49.5, as this is my favorite OVER bet of the week. We’re getting some value on this number based on the score of both team’s games last week. However, make no mistake about it. These are two fo the worst defenses in the entire NFL, and we should see a ton of points in this one.
The VIkings are 28th (6.1) in opponent yards per play and the Lions are 31st (6.6) in that same stat. Those aren’t very good. I’ll take the OVER here. -- Iain MacMillan
Green Bay Packers at Cincinnati Bengals (-3.5) | Total 51.0
THE PLAY: Packers -3.5
If you throw out the first game of the season for Green Bay, which was an aberration, they look good this season. They’re 3-0 ATS (against the spread), seventh in the league in rushing yards allowed, and the defense is only allowing around 21 points per game.
I like Aaron Rodgers more than Joe Burrow, so in a potentially close matchup I like Rodgers. Also, the Packers cover at a 55% clip as an away favorite since Rodgers has been the starter. With Green Bay stepping up to the plate, I like this spot for them. -- Donnavan Smoot
Cleveland Browns at Los Angeles Chargers (-1.5) | Total 47.0
THE PLAY: Chargers -1.5
I’m loving the Chargers in this one. I’m not going to go too deep into the stats on this one. The Chargers are just playing better football right now and when it’s a toss-up like this game, that matters the most. They’re coming off two huge wins for them in the AFC West and they have a chance to make a statement against a Browns team that is most likely also going to be in the playoffs.
The Chargers pass defense has been fantastic and is top five in the league. The Browns have struggled to throw the ball, only scoring 14 points against a BAD Minnesota defense last week. I don’t think the Browns will be able to run the Chargers into submission, so I’m going with the Chargers to win this game straight up. -- Peter Dewey
New York Jets at Atlanta Falcons (-3.0) | Total 45.5
THE PLAY: Jets +3.0
I got the Jets at +3.5, but I see this game closer to a pick’em. This game is at a neutral field, Atlanta is outside the top 25 in rushing and passing defensive success rate and the Jets offense looked better last week against a soft Tennessee defense.
I’ll happily take a field goal against an Atlanta team that let Washington move the ball at will and put up 30 points. Why can’t Zach Wilson keep it up for a second straight game. I’m all over Gang Green. -- Reed Wallach
San Francisco 49ers at Arizona Cardinals (-5.5) | Total 50.0
THE PLAY: 49ers +5.5
It’s a plain and simple pick for me this week. I like the 49ers at +5.5 on the road against the only undefeated team left in the NFL, the Arizona Cardinals. This is a big public favorite fade of the week. Everybody’s all over Arizona right now. This is going to be the play everyone is going to gravitate towards, especially coming off a fairly dominant win on the road against the Rams.
There feels like there’ just a little too much love right now with the Arizona Cardinals. San Francisco played them really tough in Week 16 last season. The Cardinals might see this as an opportunity to get revenge at home, but I think the 49ers are still a good football team coming off a stretch where nobody wanted to bet on them. -- Ben Heisler
