NFL Power Rankings Based on Odds Ahead of Week 7
By Peter Dewey
It’s that time of the week again, as Week 6 of the NFL season allowed a few contenders to separate themselves, specifically the Arizona Cardinals and Baltimore Ravens, while some early season darlings continued to slip (remember when the Denver Broncos were 3-0? Me either).
Kyler Murray and the Cardinals can’t be stopped, blowing out the injury-riddled Cleveland Browns on Sunday. We have to take them seriously and Arizona is one of the few teams I considered for the No. 1 spot in this week’s NFL Power Rankings in relation to the Super Bowl odds at WynnBET Sportsbook.
Lamar Jackson has been my MVP pick through the first six weeks, even with as good as Kyler has been, and he led the Ravens to a massive win over the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 6.
If you’re looking for last week’s rankings to see where everyone moved to, you can find it here.
Let’s get into this week’s rankings with Week 7 of the NFL season upon us:
1. Arizona Cardinals (6-0, +900) Last Week: No. 3
I've waited for Arizona to falter during this torrid start, but the Cardinals haven't and they deserve the No. 1 spot after blowing out the Browns. Kyler Murray is the MVP favorite for a reason, and this offense has looked really tough to stop. The NFC West may run through Arizona.
2. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (5-1, +550) LW: No. 1
The Buccaneers continue to win, although they made things interesting late against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 6. Richard Sherman is the latest injured defensive back in Tampa, and that passing defense is going to be tested until it can get healthy.
3. Los Angeles Rams (5-1, +900) LW: No. 4
The Rams dominated the Giants in Week 6 and now will face Matthew Stafford's old team in Detroit. Jared Goff is going to have some major FOMO in that matchup.
4. Baltimore Ravens (5-1, +1000) LW: No. 6
Lamar Jackson and the Ravens blew out the Chargers in Week 6 and now have won five straight games. John Harbaugh's team has overcome major injuries to stay amongst the NFL's elite.
5. Green Bay Packers (5-1, +1200) LW: No. 5
Aaron Rodgers told the Chicago Bears and their fans that he still owns them after scoring his game-sealing touchdown in Week 6. He's not wrong. The Packers also own the NFC North. That opening loss to the Saints is a distance memory.
6. Buffalo Bills (4-2, +550) LW: No. 2
Buffalo's questionable decision to go for it on fourth down while trailing by three led to the team taking its second loss of the season. Derrick Henry exposed a Buffalo run defense that may have benefitted from facing the Texans and Dolphins earlier this season.
7. Dallas Cowboys (5-1, +900) LW: No. 8
Dallas is every bettors' favorite team this season, as America's Team is 6-0 against the spread. The Cowboys needed overtime and a CeeDee Lamb touchdown to cover this past week, but they've been impressive nonetheless.
8. Kansas City Chiefs (3-3, +750) LW: No. 10
Patrick Mahomes and company put together a major second half to down the Washington Football Team in Week 6. KC is now a game out in the AFC West and the defense finally held a team under 29 points. Things are looking up.
9. Los Angeles Chargers (4-2, +1800) LW: No. 7
The Chargers still have some signature wins this season, but they also now have a signature loss to the Ravens. Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs are right on their heels in the AFC West.
10. Tennessee Titans (4-2, +4000) LW: No. 11
Just give Derrick Henry the ball and get out of the way (block for him first, but you get my point). Henry totaled 156 yards and three scores in an upset against the Bills, and he's making a case to be the first running back to win MVP since Adrian Peterson.
11. Las Vegas Raiders (4-2, +6000) LW: No. 15
The Raiders handled the Broncos in the first game in the post-Jon Gruden era. Las Vegas is going to have a tough road to a playoff spot, but a 4-2 start is a good place to be.
12. Cincinnati Bengals (4-2, +15000) LW: No. 13
The Bengals are good, and Joe Burrow, Ja'Marr Chase and Joe Mixon are a scary trio offensively. Yes, Cincy only beat the Lions in Week 6, but the Bengals are one of three 4-2 teams in the AFC at the moment.
13. New Orleans Saints (3-2, +4000) LW: No. 12
The Saints were on a bye in Week 6, but they have to feel good about their chances of finding their way into a playoff spot after another Carolina loss.
14. Cleveland Browns (3-3, +2000) LW: No. 9
Kareem Hunt is out for a month and Nick Chubb and Baker Mayfield are both banged up. The Browns are falling apart and are on a short week. Luckily, they're facing the Broncos who are 0-3 in their last three games.
15. Minnesota Vikings (3-3, +7500) LW: No. 22
Minnesota has won three of its last four games to return to the NFC playoff picture. The defense hasn't been great and Patrick Peterson is now on IR, but the Vikings have a pulse after a tough 0-2 start.
16. Pittsburgh Steelers (3-3, +7500) LW: No. 16
The Steelers needed overtime to beat Geno Smith, but their defense has looked legit the past two weeks. Don't let T.J. Watt get going or maybe Ben Roethlisberger can sneak this team into the playoffs (I still doubt it).
17. San Francisco 49ers (2-3, +4000) LW: No. 14
The 49ers were on a bye in Week 6, but they face a must-win matchup in Week 7 against the Colts. Jimmy Garoppolo was at practice on Monday which is a good sign going forward.
18. Chicago Bears (3-3, +25000) LW: No. 18
Please tell me you didn't expect Justin Fields to beat Aaron Rodgers? The Bears aren't great, but they'll compete this season. They just need Fields to get valuable reps for the future and this season is a win.
19. Carolina Panthers (3-3, +15000) LW: No. 19
The Panthers nearly orchestrated a comeback against Minnesota, but they fell short in OT. Now 0-3 without Christian McCaffrey, who was placed on IR, the Panthers are looking very ordinary after a 3-0 start.
20. Denver Broncos (3-3, +10000) LW: No. 17
It may be time for Drew Lock. No, seriously. The Broncos are now 0-3 against teams not named the New York Jets, Jacksonville Jaguars and New York Giants. Teddy Bridgewater threw three picks in Week 6 and clearly isn't the future of this team. The Broncos remain in quarterback purgatory.
21. Indianapolis Colts (2-4, +10000) LW: No. 23
The Colts blew out the Houston Texans in Week 6, but they're going to need to pick up some quality wins to take the AFC South from the Titans. If they win their next two games against San Francisco and Tennessee there's a playoff case to be made.
22. New England Patriots (2-4, +10000) LW: No. 21
The Patriots just can't close games. New England looked to have an upset in hand against Dallas this past week, but the defense squandered it away. Trading Stephon Gilmore may come back to bite the Pats, as they've allowed 757 passing yards and six scores over the past two games.
23. Seattle Seahawks (2-4, +10000) LW: No. 20
Seattle is in a tough spot without Russell Wilson, as every game matters in the ultra-competitive NFC West. Geno Smith showed some fight against the Steelers, but I'm not sure if this offense has enough firepower to compete without Russ.
24. Philadelphia Eagles (2-4, +50000) LW: No. 24
Jalen Hurts and the Eagles almost made a comeback against the Bucs in Week 6, but they ultimately fell short, still covering the spread. Until Nick Sirianni establishes a running game the Eagles are going to have a hard time competing.
25. Atlanta Falcons (2-3, +50000) LW: No. 26
Atlanta was on a bye this past week, but I have liked how Cordarrelle Patterson, Kyle Pitts and Calvin Ridley have looked. A matchup with the Dolphins awaits.
26. Washington Football Team (2-4, +20000) LW: No. 25
Washington was smoked by the Chiefs in the second half on Sunday. This defense has taken a major step back from last season, and it's going to be hard to win any games with that and Taylor Heinicke at quarterback.
27. New York Jets (1-4, +200000) LW: No. 30
The Jets didn't lose last week, but they didn't win either. The win over the Titans was impressive enough for me to move them up on their bye week.
28. New York Giants (1-5, +100000) LW: No. 29
The Giants' offense is so banged up that it's hard to criticize Daniel Jones, but a four turnover performance is inexcusable. New York is destined for another top draft pick in 2022.
29. Jacksonville Jaguars (1-5, +200000) LW: No. 32
Trevor Lawrence got his first career win against the Dolphins in Week 6, and he's the reason the Jaguars have some hope this season. I wouldn't count on it, though.
30. Houston Texans (1-5, +200000) LW: No. 31
Davis Mills is overmatched at quarterback, but he's shown flashes (like against the Patriots in Week 5). The Texans are battling for the No. 1 pick at this point.
31. Miami Dolphins (1-5, +50000) LW: No. 27
The Dolphins lost to the winless Jaguars even with Tua Tagovailoa back at quarterback. I'm not sure how this team went 10-6 last season, but the Tua pick over Justin Herbert is looking worse every game.
32. Detroit Lions (0-6, +200000) LW: No. 28
The Lions play really hard for Dan Campbell, but they are now the only winless team in the NFL. With Matthew Stafford and the Rams on tap in Week 7, I don't see that changing.
