NFL Week 18 Upset Picks: Eagles, 49ers and Major Underdog Headline Top Predictions
The final week of the NFL regular season is upon us, and the BetSided team is looking to close out the season in a positive way with our weekly upset picks.
After a 2-1 Week 17, we are officially 34-25-1 on the season, and our editors are eyeing games that will have an impact on the playoff race this week. Who can come away with a shocking win?
Here’s who we are backing in this week’s slate, with odds via WynnBET Sportsbook:
San Francisco 49ers (+165) vs. Los Angeles Rams
I already have repped the Kyle Shanahan underdog train hard this year, as he's gone 24-17-0 ATS when the opposing team is favored.
However, he seems to run circles around Sean McVay, both straight-up, as well as vs. the number. In his career, Shanahan is 6-3 ATS in head-to-head matchups, including five consecutive wins straight up.
While Jimmy Garoppolo is 5-0 vs. LA as a member of the 49ers, I buy Trey Lance to hold it down if Garoppolo is still nursing his thumb injury based on how often the 49ers rely on their run game to dictate tempo and set up their quarterback to effectively run play-action
With the line already moving towards the 49ers from their opening number of five, I believe San Francisco is live, knowing it needs a win to make the postseason. -- Ben Heisler
Philadelphia Eagles (+240) vs. Dallas Cowboys
Earlier this week, I predicted that the Eagles would keep it close with the Cowboys. I’m all in now. Philadelphia handed the ball off to its running backs three times in the last game these two teams played against each other. Now, the Eagles are the best rushing team in the league and I think that’s going to be the difference in the game. If the Eagles can keep the ball in their hands and away from Prescott, they can get this one to end the season.
The Eagles also have one of the best defenses in the league. They allow under 21 points per game, are top 10 in yards allowed per game and are top 3 in opponent yards per play.
Philadelphia has the tools to stop Dallas, especially when the Cowboys are slumping the way they are right now. – Donnavan Smoot
Houston Texans (+400) vs. Tennessee Titans
Who wants some chaos in Week 18?
The Texans have already beaten the Titans this season, and now they can play spoiler for the second time in three weeks and knock the Titans from the No. 1 seed. Two weeks ago the Texans upset the Los Angeles Chargers, and I think Houston may be able to make some noise even if Derrick Henry returns.
The Titans have been vulnerable all year, losing to Houston and the New York Jets, so it wouldn’t surprise me if this game ends up in a nail biter in Week 18. – Peter Dewey
