Denver Nuggets OVER 47.5 Wins (-105)
I'm a big underreact guy, and when everyone is jumping off the Nuggets bandwagon with Jamal Murray being out for an extended period of time while his ACL heels, now is the time for me to jump on the bandwagon.Denver still has the reigning MVP in Nikola Jokic on its roster, and Michael Porter Jr. and Aaron Gordon will provide him with enough support for the Nuggets to get the better of most teams in the NBA on the majority of nights.
They won 54 games in the 2018-2019 season, and landed with 46 and 47 wins in each of the last two shortened campaigns. They may not be as flashy as a team like the Lakers, but make no mistake about it, the Nuggtes are a contender. I'll take the OVER 47.5 wins. -- Iain McMillian
Portland Trail Blazers UNDER 44.5 (-120)
I don’t think Portland falls extremely short of this number, but the Blazers are due for some regression after earning the No. 6 seed last season. Damian Lillard, CJ McCollum and Jusuf Nurkic are running it back once again, and it just seems that Portland hasn’t done enough with this roster to warrant a leap in the 2021-22 season.
With the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers expected to take a step forward this season, I think Portland falls back into the play--in conversation this year.
I do like the addition of Larry Nance Jr., but he doesn’t raise Portland’s ceiling. Another first-round exit wouldn’t surprise me at all this season. -- Peter Dewey
Utah Jazz OVER 52.5 Wins (-120)
I will always believe in the Utah Jazz’s potential -- as long as it’s between October and April. While I’m not bullish on the Jazz’s postseason potential, they are a great regular season team.
Donovan Mitchell is slated for another big jump as the team’s star and Rudy Gobert is the favorite for another Defensive Player of the Year. The Jazz won 52 games in a shortened season last year. With a full 82-game schedule and a healthy Mike Conley, Utah should be a well-oiled machine this season. -- Donnavan Smoot
I'll echo similar sentiments as Donnavan's and also play the over.
Say what you want about the postseason, but no one can deny the regular season excellence of the Jazz. This is a deep roster that can throttle opponents on a given night. They bring back the same core that had the best net rating in the league by a considerable margin, +9, which is nearly three points better than the next closest team.
Donnavan Mitchel is a budding star and Rudy Gobert’s defense is unmatched in the regular season. The team won at a near-60 win clip last season, this is way too far of a step back with the same roster. -- Reed Wallach
