Let’s Set Odds: Who Will Be Eagles Starting QB Next Season?
By Peter Dewey
The Philadelphia Eagles and Jalen Hurts were dominated by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wild card round of the NFL playoffs on Sunday.
Tampa Bay took a 31-0 lead on the Eagles before two garbage-time touchdowns helped Philly finish the game with a more respectable 31-15 loss.
Hurts struggled mightily in the game, completing just 53.5 percent of his passes and throwing two interceptions and just one touchdown.
After the game, the Eagles quarterback was seen in a walking boot, and he revealed that he may need surgery on his injury now that the season is over.
While Hurts’ injury could be a reason for his poor play, will the Eagles be content with running it back with him at quarterback next season?
While WynnBET Sportsbook doesn’t have odds posted for the Eagles quarterback next season, here are our hypothetical odds for who will be the Eagles’ quarterback in 2022.
Odds for Who Will Be Eagles Starting QB Next Season
- Jalen Hurts: -175
- Gardner Minshew: +200
- Kenny Pickett: +350
- Matt Corral: +350
- Deshaun Watson: +575
- Russell Wilson: +1000
- Aaron Rodgers: +2000
Jalen Hurts (-175)
Look, Hurts struggled on Sunday, but he also took a team that was expected to finish in the bottom half of the league to the playoffs a year after the Eagles won just four games.
Nick Sirianni started to realize that running the ball more could help bring out Hurts’ strength later in the season, but the Eagles could still use another weapon opposite of DeVonta Smith on offense.
Maybe Howie Roseman decides to move on from Hurts with one of his three first-round picks, but it’s hard to justify benching or trading a quarterback that took a team that was supposed to have a top five pick to the playoffs in his first full season.
Gardner Minshew (+200)
The Eagles traded for Gardner Minshew as Hurts insurance, and he showed some potential again when he was allowed to play this season.
Maybe Minshew gets a chance to beat out Hurts in the preseason, but if the Eagles run it back he still will likely be the backup to start the season.
Minshew is a solid passer, but Hurts brings a little more to the game with his rushing ability and athleticism.
Kenny Pickett (+350)
Kenny Pickett may be the first quarterback taken in the 2022 NFL Draft, and Philly has enough draft capital to move up and get him.
The Eagles have their own first-round pick as well as the Miami Dolphins and Indianapolis Colts’ selections, and they have five picks expected to land in the top 100 of the draft.
Pickett had a great season at Pittsburgh, but do the Eagles really think a rookie is an upgrade over Hurts? Maybe they do, but I think if they make a move, Hurts would have to be included in the deal.
Matt Corral (+350)
Matt Corral is another quarterback expected to go in the first round, and he, like Pickett could be a choice if the Eagles decide to move up in the draft or if he falls to them at No. 15.
I don’t see the attraction in taking a rookie quarterback, but if the Eagles decide to move on from Hurts, with their cap situation, another rookie deal makes sense.
Deshaun Watson (+575)
There were rumors that the Eagles were interested in Deshaun Watson this season, but there are a lot of uncertainties with the Houston Texans quarterback.
First off, Watson is still dealing with serious sexual assault allegations against him and may not even be eligible to play if he is traded.
Secondly, Watson and Brian Flores seem destined to end up together, and there’s no way the Eagles would fire Sirianni after the season they had in 2021.
Russell Wilson (+1000)
Russell Wilson’s future in Seattle is in question, and the Eagles may be able to offer the best trade (three first-rounders this season) to bring Wilson to a new team.
However, if the star quarterback doesn’t want to go to Philly, it’s hard to see him forcing his way out unless he will be dealt to a team he wants to play for. Maybe the Seahawks try to rebuild and move on from Russ, but the money will also be tough for the Eagles to make it work.
Aaron Rodgers (+2000)
It’s hard to see Aaron Rodgers leaving Green Bay for any team on the East Coast. Plus, the Eagles aren’t a true Super Bowl contender and have some suspect weapons.
Rodgers is going to play for a team that is Super Bowl ready or he’s staying in Green Bay. Philly doesn’t check that box.
