Orioles vs. Blue Jays Prediction and Odds for Tuesday, June 14 (Be Aware of Weak Pitching for Both Teams Today)
By Matt De Saro
AL East rivals clash tonight when the Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays continue their four-game series at Rogers Centre. Using the term rivals might be giving the Orioles too much credit considering they are in last place in the division while the Blue Jays are in second.
Despite this, with the way the New York Yankees are playing, neither team has a great shot to win the division right now. But, the Blue Jays can pick up some ground against a very weak Orioles team if they play their cards right.
Here are the consensus odds for tonight's game.
Orioles vs. Blue Jays Odds, Run Line, and Total
Run Line
- Orioles: +1.5 (-115)
- Blue Jays: -1.5 (-105)
Moneyline:
- Orioles: +185
- Blue Jays: -205
Total:
- Total 9 (Over -110/Under -110)
Orioles vs. Blue Jays Prediction and Pick
While the Blue Jays are a much better team on paper, I have a lot of concerns about their starting pitcher tonight. Yusei Kikuchi enters this game with a below-average but not terrible 4.44 ERA and 1.48 WHIP. However, he’s been on a downhill slide since the start of June. Over his last two starts, Kikuchi has allowed seven earned runs in 5 ⅓ innings. The biggest red flag came last week against a very weak Royals team. Kikuchi gave up three earned runs and four walks before getting pulled before the end of the first inning. Had it been against the Yankees I could pass this off, but the Royals rank 26th in runs scored and have no business scoring three first-innings runs on anyone.
That would all be great for the Orioles tonight, but they have their own issues on the mound with Jordan Lyles making his 12th start. Lyles has had a very similar season to Kikuchi up until now. Both had terrible marks in April, turned things around in May, and have been appalling in June. Lyles has a 9.00 ERA this month with more walks than strikeouts. And, much like Kikuchi, Lyles got torched by two awful teams in the Royals and Mariners.
While the Blue Jays are a clear favorite, I am having a hard time trusting Kukichi in this spot. He’s been terrible in his last two starts and the Orioles are no worse than the Royals at the plate. But Lyles scares me even more despite my desire to grab the O’s as road dogs. The OVER feels right in this situation even though the Orioles' offense is rather weak.
Pick: OVER 9.5 (+100)
