How did David defeat Goliath? He found the giant's weakness and exploited it. Styles make fights, after all. In this fight, the 49ers just may have the sling to take down Aaron Rodgers and the seemingly unbeatable Green Bay Packers.
Our own Iain MacMillan laid out the case for the 49ers and I couldn't agree more. The way to beat the Packers, as has been the case for several years now, is through an effective running game that can exploit the Packers' linebackers. So who has an elite rushing attack with multiple ways to hurt a defense? That would be the 49ers.
San Francisco unleashed Deebo Samuel in the ground game near the end of the season and averaged 131 rushing yards per game as a team over the final 5 weeks. With Samuel and a healthy Elijah Mitchell leading the way, the 49ers will look to control the clock and keep the ball out of Aaron Rodgers' hands.
In the Packers' 4 losses this season, they surrendered an average of just over 109 rushing yards per game. I'll note that one of those losses came with Jordan Love starting and another came in a meaningless week 18 game, but the blueprint is there. We nearly saw the 49ers knock off the Packers early in the season before some late-game heroics from Rodgers saved the day. However, San Francisco had not unlocked their true rushing potential yet (Deebo had only 2 carries) and are a much more dangerous team now.
The 49ers are the last team the Packers want to play right now. I'll dabble on the 49ers' moneyline at +210, but getting 6 points is way too many for a team that has a worthy sling in hand to take down Goliath. The 49ers +6 (-110) is my best bet.
