The Washington Wizards came out of the gates strong, winning their first two games of the 2022-23 season before losing in overtime to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday.

Now, Washington looks to get back in the win column when it hosts the upstart Detroit Pistons on Tuesday night.

Detroit won its season opener against the Orlando Magic, but it has struggled since then, getting blown out by the New York Knicks on Friday before losing by nine to the rebuilding Indiana Pacers on Saturday.

The Pistons are still without Alec Burks and Marvin Bagley III, but that doesn’t excuse the team’s putrid 117.9 defensive rating through the first three games (27th in the NBA).

Jaden Ivey and Cade Cunningham have played well so far this season, but can they do enough to take down Bradley Beal (shooting 61.7% from the field this season) and the Wizards?

Pistons vs. Wizards Prediction and Pick

I’m not out on the Pistons just yet in the 2022-23 season, but the team’s lack of defense early on is certainly concerning. That can be an Achilles heel for a young team, and the Pistons really haven’t faced an elite offense yet this season.

Washington hasn’t been impressive on offense, ranking 27th in the NBA in offensive rating this season, but now it’s facing a Pistons team that likes to play uptempo (11th in pace). Detroit’s struggling defense should give the Wizards some easier baskets, and Beal is playing some of the best basketball of his career to this point in the season.

The Pistons have combined for 222, 236 and 239 points through their first three games. While Washington has only cleared this total once, it did come close in the season opener with 221 combined points.

Unless Detroit’s defense completely flips the script tonight, this should be an uptempo, offensive-focused game.
