Put Some Respect on Jalen Hurts' MVP Odds

Philadelphia has a QB1 again.

Jalen Hurts, who took over for Carson Wentz last season, showed up and showed out against the Atlanta Falcons and led the Philadelphia Eagles to a 32-6 win.

We saw a lot of quarterbacks have a great season opener -- Kyler Murray, Matthew Stafford, Jameis Winston -- and all of them immediately got put in the top 10 of the MVP odds. Yet, the oddsmakers didn’t show that same love to Jalen Hurts.

WynnBET is giving Hurts +4000 odds to win the MVP, which is disrespectful on a couple levels. First, he played a great game and showed that he can be a starting quarterback in the NFL. Secondly, and this is where the true disrespect comes from, he’s behind Tua Tagovailoa and Ryan Tannehill.

Neither of those quarterbacks played well on Sunday and failed to lead their teams to 20 points on offense. Meanwhile, Hurts went on the road and led the Eagles to over 30.

While the Tannehill odds make sense since the Tennessee Titans are favored to win the AFC South, Tagovailoa being above Hurts and Tannehill is disrespectful to both quarterbacks.

Hurts finished the game with 326 total yards and 3 touchdowns. Although the Dallas Cowboys are the heavy favorites in the NFC East, that division is one of the weirdest in the league and the Eagles could have a little success with a hot start.

Philadelphia hosts the San Francisco 49ers next week, which could be a great showing for Hurts that he can perform against good defenses just as well as bad ones.

Even if Hurts and the Eagles lose to San Francisco, he should move up in the standings for this handshake alone.
