The 30-33 Texas Rangers scored three in the ninth inning last night to pull off a comeback win over the 24-39 Detroit Tigers. They hope for a similar result tonight at 7:10 PM EST as Jon Gray takes on Tarik Skubal.

Gray has been inconsistent but comes off six strong innings against the White Sox; allowing only one run. He's allowed one run in two of his three starts this month, but gave up five in the other. Command has been Gray's wart, so if he can limit his walks he should pitch well.

Skubal comes off his worst start since April, allowing four runs to the Blue Jays in a loss. That was the first time he didn't throw at least five innings since his first outing of the season, so he'll try to bounce back and return to form today.

Can Skubal succeed? Or will Gray give the Rangers their fifth win in seven games?

Let's bring in our friends from WynnBET Sportsbook to find out ahead of this Rangers vs Tigers matchup:

Rangers vs Tigers Prediction and Pick

Over the Tigers' last five games, they've been shut out twice and scored one run twice. They lost all five times. Their offense is pathetic and emblematic of one of the most disappointing 2022s of any squad.

I expect Rangers starter Jon Gray to take advantage of Detroit's little league lineup today. He has a 4.85 ERA, but his 3.79 expected ERA suggests he's been unlucky. Kind of like spying a blackjack dealer's table that everyone keeps winning at, there's no better lineup to face to turn your luck around than the Tigers'.

But Skubal is on the mound for Detroit, and he's their lone bright spot in a dark, downtrodden year. Skubal wasn't great last week, but he's been one of the league's best pitchers all season and sports a 2.41 ERA at home.

I can't bring myself to pick against Skubal, he's my guy, but it's hard to come up with a case to pick Detroit other than "they can't be this horrible offensively forever, can they?"

Well, they absolutely can. So instead of a side, I'm looking to the total for value. The under is 6-1-1 in Skubal's last eight starts and 9-3-2 in Detroit's last 14 as a home favorite. Wind is blowing out to centerfield today but Skubal and Gray are both overwhelmingly groundball pitchers, so the weather impact shouldn't be as severe as usual.

Roll with the under 8.0 (-115) as the Tigers continue hitting absolutely nothing and Skubal shines. Detroit hasn't scored eight runs combined over their last five - let's enjoy their ineptitude before oddsmakers adjust.

Pick: Under 8 (-115)
