Playoff baseball has started early for four teams in the American League as each game is an almost must-win if they want to secure one of the two available wild card spots.

The New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Seattle Mariners, and Toronto Blue Jays are all within two games of each other as teams get set to play their final four games of the season.

The Red Sox currently hold on to the second wild card spot, and they’re set to wrap up their series with the Baltimore Orioles tonight. A loss to the Orioles, who have the worst record in the American League, would be a blow to their chances of hanging on to that final spot.

WynnBET currently has the Red Sox set as sizable -235 (bet $235 to profit $100) favorites to win the game, with the Orioles set as +185 (bet $100 to profit $185) underdogs. The total for the game is set at 10 runs.

If you want to get more aggressive betting on the Red Sox, you can back them on the -2.5 run line at -105, which means they would have to win the game by at least three runs.

Red Sox vs. Orioles Prediction and Pick

There’s a reason that the Red Sox are so heavily favored in this game. The Orioles are trotting out a pitcher by the name of Alexander Wells, who sports a not-so-hot earned run average of 7.61. He has allowed at least three runs in his last three starts, while allowing five or more runs in three of his last six starts.

To be fair, the Red Sox aren’t exactly starting the star of their rotation either, as Nick Pivetta will take the mound with a 4.52 ERA.

This starting pitcher matchup is largely the cause of the high total for the game of 10 runs, but I won’t let the double-digit number scare me, I’ll take the over 10 in this AL East matchup.

Dating back to Aug. 1, the Red Sox lead Major League Baseball in OPS (.814) while ranking third in total runs scored (283). The Orioles haven’t been as bad as you may think those statistics as well, as they rank 19th (.720) and 23rd (214) in them respectively.

If the two starting pitchers manage to survive, the Red Sox and Orioles will turn to their bullpens which rank 12th (3.96) and dead last (5.64) in bullpen ERA.

I feel comfortable backing the over 10 runs in this game tonight.
