St. Louis Cardinals Being Slept on in Latest World Series Odds
By Peter Dewey
There hasn’t been a better team in baseball than the St. Louis Cardinals over the past month. The red birds went on a 17-game winning streak to propel themselves into the National League wild card game.
St. Louis will face the Los Angeles Dodgers, who won 106 games this season, in the wild card game and the Cardinals aren’t getting much of a shot to pull off the win. WynnBET has the Dodgers favored at -205 on the moneyline, but it’s surprising that St. Louis isn’t given much of a chance in a win-or-go-home game.
The Cardinals may not be the better team, but there is something to be said for playing well at the right time. While the Dodgers are the favorite to win the World Series and have been for basically all of the 2021 season, St. Louis’ World Series odds are exceptionally low compared to other wild card teams.
Odds to Win the World Series Ahead of MLB Playoffs
- Los Angeles Dodgers: +300
- Houston Astros: +500
- San Francisco Giants: +600
- Milwaukee Brewers: +700
- Chicago White Sox: +800
- Tampa Bay Rays: +800
- New York Yankees: +1000
- Atlanta Braves: +1500
- Boston Red Sox: +1500
- St. Louis Cardinals: +2500

Liabilities matter a little here, but the fact that the Cardinals are so far behind the Yankees and Red Sox, who are in a toss up of a matchup in the American League wild card, seems like they deserve a bit more respect.
Adama Wainwright will face Max Scherzer in the National League wild card game, and the Cardinals veteran has quietly been one of the best pitchers in the league this season. Wainwright has pulled off impressive playoff games before, and anything can happen in Wednesday’s contest.
While the Cardinals aren’t my pick to win the World Series at these long odds, it’s surprising they aren’t on the same level as the other teams competing to advance to the ALDS and NLDS.
