Steelers Expected to Take Massive Step Back in 2022 Based on Super Bowl Odds

Who's ready to bet the winner of the 2023 Super Bowl?

After WynnBET Sportsbook and others released Super Bowl 57 odds for next year, there was a ton of debate online for where each team should land.

Earlier this week, I wrote about the Jets being the lowest ranking team on the odds board. This time, I wanted to look at teams getting no love from the oddsmakers, but one who might have betting value moving forward.

One such team is the Pittsburgh Steelers, who enter the 2022-23 season at +7500 odds at WynnBET.

Steelers backers like to point out that they went down fighting in Ben Roethlisberger’s final year and final playoff game. That may be a glass half-full perspective, but Pittsburgh was the worst team in the playoffs and barely deserved to be there. I see no “disrespect” by the oddsmakers here. Why wouldn’t they expect a major regression from a team looking for a new starting quarterback for the first time since 2004?

Who knows what lies ahead for the Steelers, but it won't be a 2023 Super Bowl ring. Put your terrible towels down for a bit and just relax as they try to figure out their next future signal caller.

The loss of Roethlisberger now creates two scenarios for the Steelers. One is to try and bring in a veteran talent to lead a team they built around their old quarterback. The other, and more fun option, is to blow it all up and start again. If they do that, their odds will tumble much further than they are now.

With several very good players on both sides of the ball, I expect them to do more of a fusion of these two options. Maybe they trade some guys away, bolster the offense and defensive lines and give it a go again next year.

Could it work? Potentially. T.J. Watt is the reigning Defensive Player of the Year and there are several notable playmakers on offense with Diontae Johnson and Najee Harris. If they get the quarterback acquisition right, anything is in play.

On a side note. Instead of complaining that your team’s Super Bowl odds are disrespectful, be happy that you're getting value on the pick. Just ask anyone who bet on the Rams preseason last year.
