Steph Curry Proved He Should Be MVP Favorite

Watching Steph Curry drop 50 points proved two things to me last night. The first is that there is no player I like to see catch on fire more than Curry. The second is that there is no way he shouldn’t be the favorite for MVP right now. 

Curry is averaging 27.6 points, 6.6 rebounds (career-high) and 6.6 assists per game. He already has two 40-point games this season and hasn’t even gotten up to his usual 40% shooting from 3 yet. Once he hits his stride, the league needs to watch out. 

WynnBET currently has Curry’s odds to win MVP at +550, second to only Luka Doncic (+425). Doncic has started slow this season and while the Mavericks are only two games behind the Warriors, it’s clear which team is better. 

Not only is Curry gunning for the MVP, but he is also going for his second straight scoring title. The one person standing in his way is former teammate Kevin Durant. The Brooklyn Nets star is averaging 29.6 points per game and has made every bucket look effortless. Durant is third on the odds list for MVP at  +600. The one thing he doesn’t have on his side right now is the league’s top record. 

Curry hasn’t won the MVP since 2016, but if the Golden State Warriors find themselves with the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference, Curry atop the scoring list and a title run on the horizon, there isn’t much to argue about.
